this pretty much sums it up in the USA. Literally everyone grew up tossing a football, baseball, or basketball with friends. Some faggots even played youth soccer bc it's a no-contact sport predicated on making the most melodramatic reaction possible to the slightest brush-up.
But basically no one grew up playing hockey unless they were rich, white privileged kids. There is a huge start-up cost for a kid to start playing any form of hockey because the game requires so much equipment and a specialized venue. With other sports, all you really need is the appropriate ball and patch of land. Hell, we used to play touch football in a parking lot because we could run faster on pavement than we could in grass.
tl;dr playing hockey is way more expensive than playing most other sports, so poorfags can't into hockey

I think most people don't have access to an ice rink where they can get into it. It's not like you can go to the park and play it. It's getting more and more respect over the years, though.

Also, good quality hockey sticks, even the beginner level sticks are more like $20 each. Pucks might be cheap, but they get lost easily and if you're playing without protective gear they will fuck you up.
And rubber pucks don't really move across asphalt that well (or at all really) unless you turn them on edge.
Basically, you just revealed how uninformed and ignorant you really are on the topic. Playing hockey at any level requires an order of magnitude more money that playing football, baseball, or basketball.

I'm from the states and none of the neighborhood kids even knew that hockey existed until our middle school PE teacher introduced us to it. We fucked around with ball hockey for about 2 weeks and then never spoke of it again.
Outside of school we only ever played football or basketball. Football when the weather was nice, basketball when we wanted to stay indoors.

You only need to be rich if you plan on going all out with the gear. A pair of roller blades during the summer and a pair of ice skates during the winter plus a stick is all we needed growing up to play with my friends. Hell, for roller hockey we didn't usually use a roller puck or ball either. A pack of tennis balls was cheaper. As far as league play, my family saved by buying my stuff secondhand from Play-It-Again Sports.
