Are there any tricks to being any good at this? My original character was very sneaky and I was able to pick pockets occasionally but got caught all the time and it was just generally more trouble than it was worth. Anything I should know?

Hardest part are the first few levels of pickpocket. Save up enough money to train some pickpocket levels first until you can get a few perk points to boost your pickpocket changes. Join the thieves guild so you can bribe guards if you get caught. Whenever you get caught and bribe a guard, you get to keep your stolen items, and you get experience in speech, so it's a win win. Hang onto any +pickpocket gear you can find. Radiant Raiment often has rings and amulets and stuff. Whenever you gain a level, find a trainer and level up a skill relevant to your class. Then steal the money back and level up your pickpocket. Once you've got about level 50 pickpocket, stealing becomes a piece of cake, and it gives you a ton of xp. You can get to 100 pickpocket several times in a couple hours like that.
Tried running it on my shit rig. Got 68-70 fps in the first dungeon then when I got out into the wilderness I went down to 35-40fps
