Whats all this crap that i've been hearing about 40 million russians being evacuated into nuclear bunkers as they are preparing for a possible nuclear strike.
All i can find is info from bullshit prepper sites and the like. I can't find anything in russian mass media talking about this.. that being said i don't speak russian and i'm using a translator. But i assume if this were to be true they would have to have some news about it so that the "40 million" could be notified about what to do.

US didn't need more powerful nukes because it had more accurate ones. The idea was to strike first, take out the enemies ability to strike back, and leave the planet somewhat intact. So you'd target military bases and missile silos, not just blanket the earth.
The US missiles were accurate to within 2 miles, so you only needed a bomb with a 2 mile blast radius. The Soviet ones were only accurate to 10 miles, so they needed ones with 10mile radii.
Then they both realised they had so many it was a non-issue and basically haven't designed new ones in 30 years.
