I've been on multiple antidepressants over many years. Dont take them from a gp. Take them from a psych. The one gp gave me fucked me up. Few others caused some side effects, most of them caused very very vivid dreams/nightmares but was tolerable. One I'm taking currently has no side effects, other than late ejaculation, has very mild positive effects. You might have to try a few to find the one that works for you. It's different for everyone, what you experience on the same drug might be different than mine. Without drugs my worst was, crying everynight till 2 am, sleep for 3 hours, wake up at 5am, cry couple more hours and go to work. Everynight I went to bed, I wished I didnt wake up. Every morning I woke up, I was disappointed I woke up. Took train to work, thoght about jumping in front of it everyday. You get the idea.
Worst on drugs was, like I said it was that one drug that fucked me up. I dont know why but I kept taking it for a m9nth, I think because gp told to stick with it. Anyway, anxiety went 10x worse. In that 4 weeks, I couldnt even leave the house. Ordered everything online. I hid my phone so not to talk to anyone. Couldnt sleep properly for a month. Etc. Then just stopped taking it and symptoms disappeared. Didnt take any antidep for a while after that.
Other antideps with side effects, like I said, mostly were vivid dreams, they are more than dreams, its like youre living them. Any anxiety, any fear you have, you get to live as real in your dreams. Woke up very tired, exhausted, wasnt worth it.
All of them I stopped cold turkey, which they always advice against but didnt cause any problems for me.
This last one im on, works better as in better mood but has no side effects. One drug I tried, made me so happy/social etc it was unreal but its effects only lasted two weeks, after week 4 i stopped taking because it wasnt doing any5h8ng anymore.
Antidep is not enough on its own though, you need to work on underlying isuues. With counciling. Anyway, these are my experiences, might be different for you. But if you have friends/family (i dont) tell a trusted one so they can monitor you for side effects but always keep in touch with your psych/coujcellr.
Anyway, dont be scared to try them, if they work they work, if they dont work you're back to where you are now
