Hey. Got busy with something yesterday and have to leave. Yea Madoka movie one and two are recaps the of the series but they have improved animation. I still recommend to watch episode 1-8 then movie 2 and 3, because while movie 2 adds new scenes, movie 1 removes some.
Yea, movie two is a bit weird in the sense that the first quarter just jerks of the money they made in animations and moe things and most of the story is only explained until it's a tad too late.
I still like it a lot. There's supposedly one last movie in the making but no preview date.
As a character, people tend to love or hate Madoka for being so powerless for most of the movie. I like her a lot and that works for me because the timeline we see in the series is the one where Homura managed to stop her from turning into a meguca for the longest time. Despite never making her wish we see how she is eager to be with her friends and protect them.
It's a shame that you concluded what was going on with the time manipulation so easily.

Utsuro no Hako to Zero, i read the LN a yeara go and the beginnig is pretty much the same except for the mc being a self insert boy
i guess it took pretty much all the guesswork out of the first half or so but i personally didn't think it removed anything from the story
