I agree. I really liked it and still do. 2 years after i watched both seasons, I started seeing more and more people post about it. I was like, ok cool, its a good show im glad others like it too. I ddidnt care. What bothered me was how the creator seems to have let the attention and popularity go to his head. Once the whole "IM PICKLE RIIIICK!" started, I realized what it had become. That line was clearly put there for that one purpose, and it succeeded. Before there was humor and jokes and themes in place for the sake of storytelling and humor itself. Now the creator is placing things like the whole pickle rick stint intentionally to gain traction as some sort of meme phrase. Its more than just a good tv show, its become a pop culture thing that become more and more agitating the more people hop on the bandwagon and try to join in the fun, ruining what made it great to begin with.

As far as R&M is concerned, you can see a clear decline from the writing standpoint. Compare season 1 with season 3.
Season 1 had good jokes and humor that was mainly based around the character's clashing personalities.
Season 3 has mainly been hollow one-liners with the obvious intent to cash in on the memes and sadly it's working.
It's not that Dan Harmon is a bad writer, he just starts losing it after a few seasons and starts rehashing shit.
Take the show Community for example. The first 3 seasons were fuckin hilarious. Smart humor, character based drama. But after a few key actors left the show started tanking. Jokes got less funny, though there were still some good ones. The drama got forced in most situations and was uncharacteristic alot of times.
It's like Dan can write 2 great seasons, a good 3rd season, and then goes full spaghetti. He also sucks ass at ending a story, so his shows drag on further than they should. I have no doubt R&M is gonna be a painful crawl through like 2 more seasons before it just unceremoniously ends

Yeah that's pretty much what I gather out of this. people who are say they just like to discuss it so much are ignoring that the same energy is hardly ever spent in any other show. the reason for that has to be it feels personal, like the show is an axiom for their personality. instead of using media to define yourself and reacting accordingly when it feels no longer part of your own sense of self, appreciate what the show has illuminated for you in your personal identification and accept it may not anymore.
clearly if it meant that much it's something to regale of, not deny it entirely when it really hasn't changed entirely. honestly I can't tell of the show at this point used the first couple episodes as a testing ground for their style their felt had the best chemistry or if they are trolling the world essentially. a new cast of writers with Dan at the helm could easily memorialize the original style of the show and becoming self referential in styling while branching off in directions the s1 and s2 would have never gone. it's possible they're well aware of this and are using it to either bridge the gap or cleverly show people incredibly quickly the show will be vastly different and they understand that. either way, I think this season and the next will overall be ones that provide just as much for an alternative crowd the first and second season did.

And I was also disappointed by the start of season 3, the last 2-3 episodes are starting to make up for it in my opinion.
