To me, thinking the way I do, yes. There's always a reason for everything, be it Newtonian physics or psychology, biology, something as fucked up as the collapse of quantum wave functions simply because you *looked* at something at just the right time...
But I don't believe the spiritual, misunderstanding "there's a reason for everything" garbage. Your life isn't shit because you're being "tested", nobody and nothing are guiding it all with a grand scheme in mind, karma isn't a thing, etc. Sure, there's plenty of behavior and misfortunes out there that're morally disgusting, bad for "the greater good", or... really unlucky when it comes to stuff like HELEvents. There are plenty of behaviors that should be eliminated from humanity over time and plenty of people I believe should be straightup murdered right in the face for our betterment, but it's not really "evil". Good or bad, pleasant and constructive or awful and destructive, shit just is the way it is

Yes, it certainly isn't so black and white. But still we seem to obsess over this concept in every generations. As with all the religious beliefs of darkness or evil and the artist's interpretation. And so I find thinking of the extremes like this a little revealing when taking a step back to observe it.
What I find such events or choices are both necessary for the improvement of life. It could be said that death works in tandem with life - allowing for a seemingly perfect existence in that it can replicate, improve and then bring new complexity. So though some things may be worse for us or hinder us - it is then our adaptation or method of living after that provokes a natural response. Just two sides of the coin that seem to marvelously keep our existence in perpetual motion. Though we die life, in general, is never fully extinguised thanks to the many complexities in nature; such as fungus spores and bacteria surviving through asteroids.
