Ended up figuring out that my interest is a mixture of morbid curiosity and an outlet for psychological pain, since I feel a sort of kinship with an innocent creature in pain through no sentient actions of it own. Like seeing unjustified abuse makes me feel less alone. I have no urges to do anything portrayed in these comics in real life though.
