I also like jumping from somewhat recent to pretty old, last one I watched was Angel's Egg and before that NGNL. Both were quite good but NGNL ending was rather disappointing, they just cut the story there.

Venus flytraps need a low nitrogen soil content, a lot of water, and not a lot of sunlight. Flies should be introduced every so often to provide additional nutrients. I'm not good with plants though.

They can be tricky. One thing that will make the plant fade fast is if you water with tap water, and/or water that has a lot of minerals and solids. Best route is distilled water for them. Chlorine and other minerals will stunt their growth and eventually kill them.
Flytraps can also thrive with artificial light too. As soon as you see the plant bolt (flower stalk), cut it off so the plant doesn't divert resources to seed. It'll help the traps themselves grow bigger.
I don't know much about growing them from seed though.

Rainwater is definitely the best, since pH is very slightly acidic and it has the sort of trace minerals the plant needs. Some people fret about the humidity, but if the media is damp, the plant will be quite fine.
Keep the little bugger healthy and you'll start seeing the offshoots and roots going outwards. Also avoid cutting off any traps if they are green. If they're shut, they're either digesting, or they're done eating. After so many meals, they turn off and quit opening to catch food.
If done eating, they are still photosynthesizing and still good for the plant. Pitcher plants are pretty fun too where you can find them.
