To piggyback on Misaki, depression is tough, and it's also on a spectrum. I know what it's like caring for someone who has it, and talking does help. Keeping and asking for your own space is fine, but you don't want to internalize things too much because it's corrosive to you and those around you too. Having a good support net helps. When one person gets tired from helping shoulder the burden, someone else can step in.
I'm in a urban area, but I can drive 15 minutes and hit open country. There's quite a bit of nature preserves and areas nearby too. When all else fails though, I drive an hour out and spend some time in peace at the ranch.

Hell, I know how that went. You soldier on and on, and then one day something just happens and it all goes south after that. That sense of lost control only makes it spiral deeper, or you get lucky and have people that help you hit the brakes. Other times help comes from an unexpected source.

That part is tricky too, the same could be said for someone who offers an ear. They want to help, but they also know that it can be too much for them alone. Or, they get in deep and then have a tough time asking for space because they don't want to feel guilty or act harshly. There's times where I have to get a bit of space from the Mrs., but we have that sense of understanding from our time together. When I catch myself getting frustrated or impatient, I remind myself that she was the one who got me out of my rut, ironically.
Like many things in life, give and take. And remember that getting stronger in any facet begins with knowing your weakness.

Yup! One day I simply woke up and my whole world had changed. I was limping. I had spent my whole childhood alone with no friends thinking I was some sort of bad ass when in reality I was just alone. Everything went south from there. That was about 3 months ago.
Eventually I made some wonderful friends on campus in a Christian youth group, and I'd hate to think where I'd be without them. Who knows what I'd have done to myself.
