It's a fucking resort compared to my old company on the remote island.
There are recruits from 3 companies in my platoon of 117 storeman trainees - I'm from Pegasus, there's some guys from Hawk company, and some from Kestrel company.
I talked to some of the Kestrel guys for a few hours. Apparently their time on the island was a god damn holiday compared to mine. While we were doing physical training they slept in bed. Things that we in Pegasus had 3 minutes to do they had 3 hours.
Judging from that I think I can safely say that the standard here won't be as high as Pegasus - And from what I've seen, that is true - But that may just be first week syndrome - Shit should get tougher as time passes.

So here's the deal. I've been a furry since middle school, and I'm now an adult. My fursona has matured and has changed bit by bit over the years, just as I have. Every change I've made to my sona reflects changes in my own life; you can still recognize the person, but the personality shines through more than ever.
I'm familiar with otherkins and therians, and my mate and a friend are of the two, respectively. I know what I am doesn't quite fit the definition of either, so I need some insight. I very closely identify with my fursona, and could never imagine myself identifying as anyone other than them or myself. The best way I can describe the connection is like having an identical twin. I gladly consider having other fursonas, but they would never hold the same meaning to me, and on the slight chance that I would ever have a fursuit of a secondary fursona, it would feel odd being someone or posing as someone whom I'm not. Now, I don't fully imagine myself as my sona (thus eliminating otherkin); I know I'm not anything but human, though I don't necessarily enjoy the idea of being human. I feel that I maybe possess the "soul" of my fursona, but not replacing my own soul. I also don't feel that I am in general a wolfox, but specifically like my own fursona (which eliminates therian).

So I'm gonna tell you folks a little thing that happened to me just now.
I live with 5 flatmates, all friendly people, I get along with them quite well. They don't know about me being a furry.
We went out to a pub to drink, then headed back to our flat and hanged out for a while. I suggested we put on some of my music. I wanted to gauge their reactions to it, so we did.
We put one on and let it play. everybody seem to like it... but then after it started playing it played my only liked song at the time: Furries Ruin Everything by Greatfox.
The moment the song went on, I froze, then detached from it by saying "what's this?"
one of my flat mates looks at his phone to check; "it's called furries ruin everything..."
They all had a puzzled look on their faces, though thankfully they didn't make the connection that this was a track that was in the playlist because I liked it.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great song, but it''s presence there was awkward, like why would a track called "Furries Ruin Everything" be playing?
They changed it over before the lyrics kicked in, so at least it didn't get weirder. But I started to feel increasingly anxious over the past 5 minutes. In the end I had to leave and go back into my room.
This is not a stab at the song by any means, but I felt it playing where it did felt inappropriate and may have raised some questions. I don't plan on telling my flatmates about me being a furry, I'd rather have them slowly figure it out on their own.
My anxiety got the better of me, perhaps, But I started to fear that they may be judging me. Irrational, perhaps? after all they don't know why that song was placed there.
But yeah, this was a bunch of words. I'm thinking about going back in and apologising for leaving so abruptly.

See, a while back, my parents caught me looking at mild furry porn. As a result, I stayed away from the fandom until my best friend (who is also a furry) piqued my interest in it again. However, it was only until a few months ago that I actually decided I was a furry, having learned enough to know that this whole thing is a rather cool fandom. While I was fine with keeping it a secret at first, I've found that it's lead to unpleasantries in my personal life, with my parents thinking I'm shying away from them due to constantly closing things related to the fandom (drawings I make, web pages talking about furries, etc. Currently, only two of my real life friends know: the one I mentioned earlier, and another that's rather neutral about it. However, I'm worried that my parents will disapprove of it due to said incident. Also I suck at trying to educate people about fandoms that are basically the toilet paper of the internet. Hell, I haven't even told my therapist about it out of fear thay they'll say that this is a problem. And keeping secrets about myself isn't my forté, and it only leads to me feeling bad about myself due to the fact that I have to keep this stuff private. I'm just honest-to-god scared right now.

I find that younger people are more loose with their words, especially racist ones like the n-word. I am an old grey muzzle, and I grew up during the late 70s and through the 80's and early 90's. That word back then was a hate word, and only a hate filled racist word. If spoken, it meant nothing but hatred. And this was long before young black people(African American for all the pc police) called each other IT. I despise the word with my whole heart and being. I don't have a racist bone in my body. And to hear young people, white or black, asian or hispanic, use that word and toss it around like a normal word, infuriates me.

The only people who know are my sister and her boyfriend, and a couple of people that I mentioned it to in passing. I think that the best way to deal with it is to be open with it, but not force it into the conversation or bring it up actively. If they ask, tell them. If they don't like it, screw them.You're your own person. I started getting interested in the whole thing when I was in my early teens, after reading the Redwall book series. From there it was just a year or two before I made my mind up over it. Just relax- it's not a big deal if you don't make it one. It doesn't hurt anyone, so it's not a problem.
