The need for even light virus protection no longer exists when browsers and built-in protection like Windows Defender are all you need nowadays. Back in the day you never knew what you were downloading so it was essentially to get protection or risk getting viruses, but it is simply not going to happen to anyone with a brain anymore.
Anti virus programs are such a scam they should honestly be illegal. Disgusting that old people are tricked into getting that shit. Really really abhorrent.

It's like turning off the modem speaker, or screwing the video cable into the computer. You always end up turning it back on to diagnose a problem, or needing to hook it up to another computer!
It's more trouble than its worth! Who hasn't temporarily plugged in a CDROM drive into a partially built computer to play a game, install an OS or program. If its coming right back out, what's the point of doing more than plug in the electronics? As long as the drive doesn't twist or flip, it'll be fine.

The other thing is, that without those lines, it will need extra cooling, because they normally act like a heat sink. See older post showing a salt & water liquid cooling rig. No need to waste money on those pre packaged ones!
