Operations is like conquest (game mode where you have to capture and hold flags to gain tickets, while killing enemies also gains tickets (tickets are your score)), but instead of just one map and a few objectives, it's multiple maps in a campaign type setting, with areas called sectors that you have to attack if you're the attacking team, defend if defense, and they also have 2-3 flags, very rarely will there ever be one flag, and that's normally at the end of a map.
Oh yeah, the attacking team actually has a spawn count that starts at 110 on most maps. So instead of tickets, the attacking team has to try and stay alive while they capture the flags. If they run out of spawns, then they lose. But they get two more tries after that, three if it's the fourth campaign
Tldr, operations is like conquest, but somewhat longer, and hard to fucking explain

Well yeah, it's quantity over quality nowadays. I like to think of the newer ones as "shiny" because that's all they are.
