Can we be marginally more precise? I don't find a lot to defend in, say, chris martin's lyricism, so if you're referring to that we agree, but I don't find coldplay's instrumentation cliched by any means. If anything they're popular enough to have been emulated repeatedly. Ironically, a lot of their pieces contain elements of dreampop which I thought you'd like.
The structure of their songs is absolutely predictable, because the purpose of the pieces is to elicit a given range of emotional responses. We've known since before music was written down how to execute a dramatic crescendo. That's best practice.

Things are much better that way for me, I am glad I got all my writing classes out of the way already. Though I do have a basic communications class to take sometime soon that I am not looking forwards to.

Linguistics is in a weird niche between content knowledge (mostly requires regurgitating on multiple choice tests), logical execution (only really for syntax and phonology, both of which I've already taken) and scholarly research and writing, so I get a good mix of all of them. This is great for me since I'm good at everything*
