Talking to bikers helps a lot because they usually have a lot of experience with different models n shit. Guns are my forte though, it depends on how much experience you have with weapons but to all newbies I reccomend a .22 because they're a lot of fun, cheap ammo, and easy to find, plus they're good for killing varmints.

Its got a nice base system that allows you to set up turrets and barricades and stuff to defend yourself from zed and human enemies alike.
