Today I was walking to my car in a parking lot in broad daylight and this guy was standing with the trunk of his SUV open and asked "can you please help me if you would be so kind?" He didn't say what he wanted help with and I just thought about this serial killer I read about who would grab girls and throw them in their car in broad daylight and it freaked me out how he had his trunk open and that the lot was pretty deserted. I just said "Sorry" kept my distance and kept walking. The guy loudly said "wow".
Anyway after I got to my car I saw him talking to a couple with their kid and he seemed to be asking for directions. I am glad someone helped him but I don't feel guilty for looking out for my own safety.
Men should be aware of the fact that women can feel quite threatened and scared when approached by a random guy especially in a deserted place, especially when the guy is standing next to his open trunk, and if you are going to ask for help, at least say what you need help with so I have some idea of what I would be getting myself into by engaging with you. And if I choose to keep walking try to be understanding and keep your comments to yourself.
