What does /b/ think of No Man's Sky?

I've been playing for about 30 minutes and I'm bored off my fucking dick.

Not even worth the GB space on HD.

Now we just have another stupid thing to circlejerk about, like fallout 4, lets all circlejerk about what a disappointment it was and how great fallout 2 was and what a predictable disappointment nms was even though everyone elses opinion on a game shouldnt matter at all but apparently it does because wtf who wants to play a game that other people dont like and lets fucking kill ourselves.

at some point in development the devs, as gamers themselves, had to realize this wasnt living up to the hype. They had to be playtesting it and thinking "shit.. if I were a typical gamer I wouldnt want to pay $60 for... this."

I've never understood why one would buy pre-releases and I normally watch streamers play new games before deciding to buy them (it's literally their fucking job). Anyone who pre-ordered it... seriously, are you dumb af? Would you reserve two seats at the nicest restaurants in town 2 month in advance AND pay upfront? If you're not a fucking idiot you'd never do it. Same logic for pre-order (and don't start with the "I get a free napkin with the logo" crap).
Now that said, what pisses me off are people white knighting this utter shit game (mostly on 9gag and reddit granted), with bs such as: GAWD this game is not for everybody!!1!!!1oneone! If you don't like it don't play it it clearly said "exploration". It sounds like they want to suck the devs' dicks, and I am of the opinion that any game should try to entice at least part of the public at large, as opposed to being so specific only a sub-category of autista can enjoy it
>>
>>699697495

pre-orders allow shit like this to happen, fampai. once the devs see a high number of pre sells, they pretty much give up on creating a good and polished product because they see they already made a shit load of money on an unfinished game.

Fuck No Mans Sky. Play Elite: Dangerous!

>>
>>699701713
at least elite has content indeed. and real multiplayer, but elite has shitty networking so.... ehhhh
>>
>>699697013
not sure how i feel about it anymore. i've got like 50 hours in it, 10 million units, a good ship, tons of suit inventory, and a kickass gun. but now i'm bored. If it had the multiplayer we were all promised then it could MAYBE be fun with friends.

I think if they added these things then if could be great
>customizable character model and ship models
>some sort of storage system/ small bank
>FUCKING MULTIPLAYER
>more difficult
>RNG civilizations so its not so damn dead on planets
>better space battles and better AI
>third person for character and flight
>change the RNG so i get some fucking grassy planets every once in a while

I sold a ton of games so i wouldnt have to pay a cent for it and im so glad i did. its not worth $60. It's not even worth $30. Guess i'll just wait for FFXV to come out.
>>

the game is dead. you'll have experienced most of it in the first two hours. I was able to refund my copy thankfully. opening packages carefully and a light dab of crazy glue makes returning a hard copy of a game a piece of cake.

Gameplay repetitive but I'm super immersed in the lore so I have my hyperdrive upgraded with boost reactors sigma, tau, and theta. I have 30 hours and I'm 160k light years from the center and will arrive in 100 warp jumps. I'm just doing it to learn all of the lore tho.

oh im not doubting elite is a good game. in fact I was just playing it today. just the only gripe i have with the game is the networking. aside from that the game has a lot to do, and the community driven events and goals bring people together to be killed in open play :)

Worth the $60? No. Worth maybe $35 given that there isn't multi and it's pretty linear, even if you do have the illusion of choice. You, as the traveler, are experiencing a simulation that you were placed in to, via an aberration (android) as a means to observe said simulation. When you get to the center, you get shit out in to another galaxy or dimension. I've been to one of each after getting to the center of my starting galaxy. It's the game that never ends, it goes on and on my friends.

i think it's pretty fun. people over-hyped it despite there being a lot of pre-release footage, so that's their own fault. i just hope they add more customization and planet randomness/new models to the game as time goes on. when each planet has similar buildings and ruins, it's pretty hard to stay immersed.

it's overhyped garbage, this is a FACT, but the problem here isnt the fact the game is so low quality. it's the fact that they think it's worth a 60$ price tag. i dont mind shitty games i wont buy, but it's almost criminal to charge so much for so little. this lowers the standards for future games and developments.

Destiny x Space Engineers with Spore's creature creator.

My biggest complaint that probably won't get fixed is how same and empty the panets are. Same size and gravity, animals are few and far between and the plants are the same on different worlds with the only difference being the name.

7/10 I am still playing cuz I need to reach the end of the crafting tree in these kinds of games.
>>
Pirated it to see if it was worth buying. It's not, but it's not horrible. About as fun as Minecraft, maybe a bit more. But I'm probably biased since I just love space games. Only gripe I have is it feels....incomplete. Like it's in alpha or beta still

I like to cruise around meteorite city and stare off into the oblivion as my mind comprehends how cool the aspect is of what the game tried to do. Just not at this price point.
$60 is just too much for what it is. There just isn't enough there, there.

That and the damn PC version is so buggy and poorly optimized as to be unplayable on many systems.

If they fix the bugs, optimize the performance on PC, lower the price to around the $40 range, and perhaps add more content; then I'll consider pulling the trigger on it.

Why do you think Sean tried to manipulate and control all information on the game, releasing in dribs and drabs right upto the 11th hour.

I think a good few years ago, all of hello games realised what a wicket they were on, and played the media beautifully.

Kept em curious, right to the end, and took everyones money to boot.

This. Definitely not worth the money. I played it for a pretty good amount of time too. Never really sure if I had "fun" playing it, more like a constant urge to keep going and progressing to see what would happen and what I would find. Kudos for the devs for crafting that experience. I did enjoy the experience for a while, but eventually I realized it was all the same shit, and saw no reason for continuing. For a 10-20 buck game yeah, maybe, but not 60. Maybe devs will add some dlc to spice it up and add some things that it is lacking. Better be free dlc though, no way I am paying another penny on it.
>>
Its boring after like 2 hours. Fuck off Nate.
>>
>>699700819
I preordered. Space sims are my thing. I even got up 3am (local) to start the download, as soon as it was released.

My thoughts: eh.... its okay. Im enjoying myself so far, but I gotta smoke a bowl to get "immersed" in it. Otherwise the grind kills the mood.

Inventory management (while I realise was supposed to be difficult) it almost ventures into "are you fucking serious" territory. A simple stack button would go miles, while still keeping the difficult factor reasonable.

Floaty ship feel - I hate that I can enter atmosphere, feeling like im coming in too hot, and expecting to plow a two mile long crater into the surface, only to have it pillow off the floor, stuck at a perm 20m above ground at all times. I almost feel like one of the spaceships out of close encounters of the third kind, all rolly polly and floaty and shit. I want to be able to open a mine shaft using my atmosphere insertion method.

Dat graphical pop. Jesus fuck my eyes. This was supposed to be a game of beauty. Why is it still figuring out where that emeril pillar should be, when im directly infront of it and its gone through several sets of positional coordinates.

The amazing "diversity" the procedural generation creates. We all knew it and its not a new thing. Procedural generation usually reproduces the same goddamn thing no matter how many tangents you give it. Ive seen that same land squid monster and dino with the tiny head on the last five planets. Theres gotta be more assets than that, how can I get multiple repeats within the first dozen planets.

Ultimately, am I angry? Not really. As far as they promised, they delivered. Ive got a game, with 18 whateverthefuck jillion number planets,
I can visit any of them, discover shit that hasnt been seen yet, and upload it as mine.

I cant be angry that the game got caught in the hype machine. I knew full well before I paid that it likely wasnt going to live upto it

So in short 6/10 Elite is still better, but noone plays it :(

To be honest the DayZ standalone has promise. The developers just need to step up their game and keep pushing out patches and releases quickly. So far they are very slow. The game runs better than the mod but it lacks substance the mod had, which sucks. I have no clue why it doesn't have workshop support, it would help the game tremendously with it's progression.

Maybe the people in this thread just can't afford to buy a decent video card so they can play the game properly.

What does /b/ think of kerbal space program?
>>
>>699708896
Elite is fucking awesome, but they started what is basically a space MMO without factions, without a common enemy, or basically a story line. People got confused, slammed it and its never really recovered.

Elite is awesome and definitely can pin No Mans Sky, but the whole space genre suffers exactly from the thing that makes it awesome.

Space is really fucking big. And really empty. That ultimately makes it pretty fucking boring.

Kinda hard to spin that into a game for the average 8 second attention span aspie kid now days.
>>
>>699709414
It's not even that you dip. People with 1080s can't run it, while people with 770s run it just fine.

No, the algorithm essentially only mapped relative locations in relation to other locations

None of it exists until someone "discovers" them, at which point RNG creates it by assigning random values to variables.
Very limited variables from what's been seen so far

Its been 3 years and we are still in alpha... it took them a year to decide that instead of just actually fixing the clipping issues with the zombies they just removed them from the game for 6 months while they completely redid their code, and when they loaded the zombies back into the game they still didn't work
>>
>>699709614

Great game with severe flaws and bugs that happened to affect loud social media idiots who name things with random characters or who don't know how to optimize their PC settings properly. When it works things are great and unlike any other game I've played. Most of the complaints are because people are too stupid to actually play the game and explore. It's like a pleb filter for how retarded people are without a HUD constantlly telling them every step of what to do or how to make everything immediately. Fucking faggots.

I bet most of the people who blindly hate the game have never even read the source material of the inspiration behind it all. The most they evr read are shit posts on the internet.

EXACTLY! The development team behind DayZ are really really slow, either that or very lazy because I barely see any progress done with it. That's why I'm saying that they should add mod support like the mod did so that people can make their own games and servers, like DayZ Epoch or DayZ Overpoch

>>699709861

It's mainly caused by the recent flood of idiots in PC gaming. They buy shit they don't even bother to optimize once installed let alone install it properly to begin with. I had a lot of performance problems but I solved almost all of it within a few minutes of minor troubleshooting and settings tweaks. All of these loud mouth whiners can't do bare minimum when it comes to troubleshooting so they go and cry about it.

Yes the game has flaw and yes there are a lot of horrible bugs but the hyperbole is far exceeding the reality of the situation.

It's not even that. People who do have experience with PC gaming are experiencing terrible framerate drops even if they tweak the settings. I know that Jim Sterling in his video said that he tweaked some setting around and he put the graphics to low-medium and still was getting >20 FPS. Also if you read the Steam reviews a lot say that the game crashes a lot before it gets to the title screen.

It's not multiplayer. The procedural generation is a gimmick. All of the planets have the same buildings, which all have the same aliens, and all have the same type of dialog and rewards, all the space stations are exactly the same inside, etc.

There's no alliances with npcs really, just random "space battles" that are gay as fuck and pointless. All you do is farm mats and craft upgrades and look for new recipes.

If you like farming mats in minecraft or WoW and grinding up professions, you might like it.

Also, this game is a shameless rip off of a cell phone game called "Out There." Look it up.

Funny enough, I got back into starbound while waiting for NMS to download, I figured hey... itll get me in the mood for it.

Unrealisingly, starbound has updated heaps. I havent played since 1.3 I think? And I got full into it.

Im playing no mans sky, because I prepaid it, and I have to get something out of it. But in the back of my mind, im thinking about starbound now and really wanting to go dig that mine.

First world problems I guess.

Mfw I grind through 20 or so bland ass planets then come across an extreme weather ice planet littered with caves and every cave has hundreds of these little box things you can pick up for 28K each
Went from barely any credits to 12million in just over an hour
>>
The games great once you get to the under ground castle and become a king the game really picks up I give no mans sky a 9/10

this

Sometimes the stupidity of certain people is off the charts.

>>699701218
>Man's is plural
>Trying to put up a connection between game and title but failing to understand english

No Man's Sky means that you have nobody around you. It's the sky of nobody/that no man owns and means that you are in the outer rim of the universe.
The developers promised that there will be multiplayer features included but didn't tell much about and then this happenend.
The only multiplayer feature existing is that you can with luck see some planets named by others. That's it. Good that I refunded and good that Steam is still a great platform which support didn't hesitate to refund.
>>
Can you die in the game? Just asking before I waste my time torrenting it.
>>
>>699710578
I've had it crash twice trying to load it, I just clicked it again and it opened fine. Not a big deal. I haven't had a problem with low frame rates at all. :/.
>>
>>699710428
Didn't know that about the stars. It would be extremely helpful if somebody created a mod that could reveal all of the possible loot from locations near you, and show where you can get specific rewards.
>>
Just finished torrent'g this shit.
Holy fuck is the optimization shit even with the g-sync off, and my rig is no slouch.
If they fix it and cut the price I may even pay for it.
>>
>>699710858

Yes. All that happens is you go to your corpse to pick up items and some of your shit gets damaged.
>>
>>699710858
Yes but it has nothing to do with survival.

You lose your exosuit inventory when you die and respawn with your ship in a space station nearby.

It is definitely not a survival game.
>>
>>699710618
I would try buying 60 bucks worth of booze and getting drunk under a bridge instead my friend.
>>
>>699710608
The procedural generation could only flourish if it was allowed more freedom in modifying a larger library of assets
>>
>>699710848
The devs never said there would be multiplay.

It was infact expressly stated several times by the very developers that there WILL NOT BE ANY MULTIPLAYER. ITS NOT A MULTIPLAYER GAME. ITS THEORETICALLY POSSIBLE, BUT REALLY REALLY (no, really.) IMPRACTICAL. (like we are talking several interviews here)

What kind of jive talking space cadet are you?

This is the problem with everything right in this post. That mindset defeats the entire purpose of this game existing in the first place. The exploration, discovery and problem solving is all part of the journey here... Fucking hell people are stupid.
>>
>>699710923
What would be helpful is being able to set markers on planet wherever you want so everytime I mine a good area and fly off to a trading post I don't loose where the fuck I was
>>
>>699711040
I would, but I've been going cold turkey 6 months and 21 days after a really bad problem that put me into this kinda poverty in the first place. anyone in London hit me up with a couple oz.?

Is this thing like Myst?
>>
is this game like the movie "The Martian"?
>>
Will possibly buy it in a year or two after it's a more sensible price (20 bucks) and it is finished. Paying 60 for this pile of shit is for suckers and only fucks it up for smarter people.

As it stands, can't bring myself to pirate it in current state. I don't want another Subnautica (waiting for updates is dicks).

In a less difficult yet more convoluted way it sort of is regarding the the overall structure of progress.
>>
>>699711063
It was publicly stated that you could meet other players, it was just unlikely due to the size.

Stop making shit up faggot
>>
My friend bought NMS and invited me to his place to play it the second it was available on steam. I watched him play it for an hour or so and then he asked me to play it. I only said yes because I didn't want him to feel bad. The game sucks dick. Yes all of the worlds are different but they are essentially the same bullshit. He paid 60 bucks for it and honestly I feel pretty bad. The game lacks substance and its boring as fuck.
>>
>>699711167
certainly does feel like you get impaled by Sean's dick through your ribcage when you boot it up
>>
>>699711063
>ITS THEORETICALLY POSSIBLE

There you proved my point you faggot.

They said it is possible but unlikely to meet other players and said that there are some "multiplayer eastereggs".

In 2016 a multiplayer shouldn't be that hard to do especially with the mechanic that only the near surroundings of you get loaded/created.

And it happened the first day proving it was a lie.
And And the And the faggot started tweeting how excited he was 2 players met each other so early, even though they did not exist in each others game
>>
>>699711433

No you can't. Two people were in the same place at the same time and couldn't see eachother, and were apparently in different instances.
>>
>>699711377
The plural of the word is multiplay. Its very existence as a term has been around since the late 80s.

MULTIPLAY.

Eat a dick, clownshoe.
>>
>>699711433
It was proven by 2 streamers day 1 that you actually can't.
>>
>>699711418

Multiple players you fucktard. You just said multiple play like the shit talking fag you are.
