Paedophilia (an attraction to children) is messed up by common consensus but isn't illegal or even necessarily bad. It becomes a crime (and damages lives) at the point where a child is actually abused. In recent years we've taken this law further to make even drawings illegal in many places, and I'm sure within a decade paedophilia will be a thought-crime, regardless of whether any children were harmed or not.
My problem with this whole issue is that "paedophiles" aren't necessarily guilty of any crime and that society hating the innocent ones makes it harder to treat them or to study it's prevalence.

Pedopheelia itself is nothing more than a fetish, and there is nothing wrong with it.
If you want to have sex with a child, you have to make sure that the child does know what is about to happen (maybe due to prior sexual education), and you do nothing without it's consent. If you force it to do anything, and/or the child just feels uncomfortable, it might scar it mentally.
