If it makes you feel better, I haven't celebrated my birhtday in 6 years. Recently turned 19, last time I even had a cake or anything special planned was when I turned 13. On my 18th birthday I went to a funeral and it was on a Wednesday. No one's remembered my birthday. Not even my parents. I grew up living with my grandparents and grandma died shortly after my 14th and grandpa after my 16th. My cousins were raised in the same house with us after their dad went to prison, felt like their younger brother. They were twins and 8 years older than me. When I was 12 one of them, Eric, went into the military. His birthday was on the same month as mine, on the 20th while mine was the 7th, and grandma's on the 25th. He always planned to come home on leave for all of April so he could celebrate mine, his, his brother's, and our grandmas birthday. Towards the end of grandma's life she developed dementia so I never held it against her for forgetting my birthday and after she died and I had to take care of gramps, I realized growing up meant that I shouldn't get mad over my birthday, as other more important things were always happening. Gramps became forgetful too and I remember massaging his knees and legs (bad knee surgery and extremely bad arthritis). It was my bday and I completely forgot until Eric saw me and said "Happy bday little man!" , gave me a big hug, a huge cupcake and GTA V for xbox 360. First gift I'd gotten in years and I just started crying hugging him telling him thank you. He bought ribs for me to cook for them (I became the cook since i had to take care of grandparents), mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuits, ice cream and root bear and pumpkin pie (my favorite). Grandpa looked at the meal I made and said "wow , must be a special occasion. Eric go tell your brother to come eat " his brother had moved out about 5 years ago. I just held back tears as I cut him a big slab of ribs and served his plate.
