My grandpa is in the hospital dying right now.
Until a couple years ago he was super active, fixing stuff for people, building things, running a huge lawn and garden full of vegetables and shit. More recently, his health has taken a turn for the worse.
He had a pacemaker installed something like 10 years ago. I don't know the exact reason why but I think I've heard atrial fibrillation from my mom once in a while.
He's basically been in heart failure for years now. I think his heart muscle is just all kind of going to hell, dying off, not working right.
My mom said he had the option of getting a new heart valve, which is part of his problem I guess. He's in such a bad condition, they recommended against it more than for it, even though if he survived it he'd be better for a while.
He's been getting worse and worse for the past year. Now it seems to be coming up on the end. I'm just sitting here waiting for my mom to call me and say he died.
Some people wouldn't feel bad, but this man basically raised me. He's the reason I'm so useful in general, being able to fix and build tons of things without even thinking about it. He took care of me most of my life and taught me a lot of things I know.
Knowing that it's coming will definitely help, but it's going to be hard when it happens. It really sucks because I'm at an otherwise good point in my life. Starting a fun career, gaining independence, etc.
