As for your question, there are generally no set rules about what a cover should look like, only that it doesn't contrast too much with the tone and rhythm that you're going for in the comic. But then, even that is not set in stone, and the contrast can be welcome in certain cases.
So just go with whatever, as long as you think it's good.
