To be completely honest I don't think it matters whether you run or swim, just how much you push yourself on the daily, then your endurance will be far superior to what is was previously. Hell, I felt like I was going to have a heart attack on first day of running because of my arrhythmia, but since I pushed myself that day, I got used to it, which in turn I believe raised my endurance significantly.

Well it's hard to explain a pace while not in person, but could you tell me your weight (if you're comfortable) so I can determine the pace you should go at? Also, if it's muscle, fat, good moderation of both, or if you're skinny. Only thing I can really say right off the bat is to not sprint the entire thing, it's better to keep a moderate pace over a longer distance than fast over short.
