Unpopular opinions thread, ill start
I think anyone that doesn't employ a materialistic philosophical view of life is a lesser human being. I think the magical thinking that idealists employ is the source of everything bad in this world, and anyone following it incapable of higher thought

It's nice to have things - getting them releases positive chemicals/feelings into the brain. But you can still get those feelings without them. And there is that belief that when you have too many they start to own you - as in, if you devote your life towards having stuff, that stuff is what's controlling you. I'd rather focus on having a positive effect on the people around me than on myself, because in upholding those principles I have changed the world in a small way to be more in line with what I value. In this sense, I have contributed towards a better world, and that helps me sleep easier at night - even if those changes are ultimately meaningless. I don't think if I was completely materialistic I'd have it so easy on myself.

No argument to be had, you are saying that an article in wikipedia somehow makes materialism wrong, while said article is about a thought experiment that suggests that we cannot know if a machine has a mind just by it's responses.
You made no arguments, you linked wikipedia

Are you drunk?

>higher thought.
You do sound fucking high right now.
>>684335055
Ok, I'll admit I just spent like a minute looking at it on wikipedia, but I think I get you. If I remember rightly from my philosophy class, this seems akin to empiricism, or believing that all knowledge comes from sense experience. By idealism, do you mean people who believe knowledge, experiences and everything else coming from a god/gods?
>>684331422
Exactly! We have no free will against the laws of biology and physics.
