The events aren't hard to understand.
There's a number of maps you have to clear to complete the event, when you clear one map you unlock another and so on.
You can choose from 3 difficulties (easy, medium,hard).
There's also other mechanics like fleet locking etc., but you should probably check the wiki since it does a better job at explaining than me.
But you should be able to get some of the rewards if you try some maps on easy.

I see how that can be annoying, I was thinking about a more complex scaling, like every every couple levels changing something, but letting the player pick the difficulty seems like the best choice. This way you can even take weaker ships if you want instead of having to stick to your strongest ones etc.

Also showing your face might be another factor, its really hard for me to do eye contact correctly sometimes.
