Well there's cowboy draw, which is single action. If you shoot yourself with a single action revolver, you deserve it.
Then there's practicing smooth CCW draws with whatever it is you prefer to carry. There's not reason for that to be anywhere near as fast as cowboy fast draw, but you should still practice draw, point, shoot at the range instead of just casual plinking.
My main point is that the time and effort to maintain shooting proficiency is a better use of time, than the time and effort it takes to maintain highly technical hand to hand proficiency. Strength training, and basic boxing/wrestling knowledge is the most the average person can reasonably expect to maintain, and tbh, if you need any more than that in a real situation, you are probably entering territory where a gun is called for anyway. Also, I say pic related is as beautiful as any katana, and I'd rather have it in my waistband than 100 hours of Krav Maga under my belt.

Been watching anime a lot, always skinnyfat. Started training kendo with a friend from school after reading Hokuto Shinken. After 2 weeks I didn't come there to practice but for people I was training with, yet I still trained there. Can't say I'm anywhere near good, but got abs at least. Only once I had a real fight in my entire life. I punched him in the face as strong as I could and watched him fall on the floor, so didn't really used what I was training, just pure strength.
My brother trained boxing for 10 y or smth, he always says if he has a chance to run away from fight he'd do it.

The best martial art is "what works." My father was an amateur boxer, and he taught me how to fight. I've been a street scrapper for 30+ years now, and I've faced a lot of people who thought they could shoot the boots with kung fu. Not one has ever impressed me. They learned fast that a street corner is not a dojo mat. I'm partial to boxing because it's what I learned, and because it's all about maximizing speed and impact force while teaching you how to take a punch when you have to, but winning a real fight is more about knowing how to let go of all your conditioned responses about hurting people.
Most people pull their punches and flinch at twisting someone's dick and balls or punching a floating rib or kicking the top of someone's foot. If you can teach yourself to hit first and do it without holding back, any kind of fighting skill will work in a scrap. Contrariwise, being the world's greatest expert at breaking boards or winning refereed matches won't do jack shit on a street corner.

True, but I don't practice Aikido, though, I'm more on the sportive spectrum of the art, but I read a lot of books on Martial Arts and MA philosophy on the sideline of my actual training because it's a great way to learn about other arts and understand about their practices and the way of thinking of the maste writing the book. one of my favorite has to be "Zen in Martial Arts" by Joe Hams. I've read a bit about Aikido. the practice of Aiki seems legit as fuck as a philosophy. Some schools have some really fucking hardcore training.
But it's true that it ALL arts there are shit schools run by posers and charlatans. The worst offenders, to me, has to be Ninjutsu schools. Because in most of all typical mcdojo tier arts such as Wing wong chun, TKD and the such there are always some legit schools with great teachers, but I have yet to hear about ONE Ninjutsu dojo that isn't full of fraudulous shit.
Not only the teachers, but the students as well. Talking about MArtial Arts with Ninjutsu practicioners is always the most awkward and enraging shit there is.
Every conversation start with "Oh yeah I'm a Ninja" and goes down the "Yeah if I wanted I could kill you" line and whatever you do to try to keep it serious or to have an actual meaningful discussion about our mutual passion of martial arts as a whole, it's ALWAYS about how badass they are and how they can kill people because THIER art is the real assassin shit unlike all others that are nothing but sports and play.
And the delusion is so intense that even beating them HARD in a sparring will NEVER succeed in teaching them humility because it was not the real street slef defense scenario.

It is a skill as much as it is a way. I've trained in MMA for 4 years, arguably one of my best experience, but tradition was there. my teacher's teacher was a 6th dan kyokushin master. So we saluted like in a kyokushin dojo, responded OSU like a kyokushin dojo and, overall kept most of the traditions of Karaté as part of our routine. Even some of the training involved Karaté shit, such as hitting the Makiwara to strenghten the knuckles and the such. say waht you will, but the physical conditioning of Kyokushin, despite using tools made of straw and bamboo, is TOP fucking notch.
I don't agree with Martial Arts as nothing but practicability. obviously Martial Arts are the art of war, but it doesn't mean that there is not a discipline and philosophy behind combat. It's just too bad that you really can't care enough to see it. One complements the other, in my opinion.

Yeah I've seen it and, well, that's basically what Ninjutsu has always been. I respect Ninjutsu as a tradition and find it awesome that this guy is the last one keeping the century old tradition of the Japanese spies. In that aspect, I think ninjutsu is amazing. The historical side of Ninjutsu is some of the most interesting and dark aspect of Feudal Japan's history.
It's the Ninja/karaté movie boom of the 70's and 80's that ruined everything. after everyone went crazy over how awesome the black dressed dudes with Katanas, all the frauds around the world capitalized on every edgy kid's desire to become a super hero and are sucking them dry of their money.
In my practice of martial arts, I've sparred against a lot of people. I absolutely love the practice and pursuit of MArtial Arts and am willing to try almost anything, so I'm never one to turn down a friendly sparring, but when it comes to sparring with edgy kids from le killing arts dojo, I make it a duty to teach them a lesson in humility.
I remember sparring with some wannabe kung fu idiot who heard I practiced martial arts and bothered me all night at a party to fight with him because he wanted to impress the chicks. I ended up accepting and all I did most of the time was dodge and kick his vulnerable legs. I remembger him saying "Hey dude, could you stop kicking, please? Because, then I'd have to kick as well and when I kick, I aim for the kill!"
I boxed for a couple of years, so I didn't fucking care that I couldn't use my legs. It changed from kicking his vulnerable legs to non-stop face jab and body blows. Shit was hilarious.
I'll never understand why people who never stepped in any type of gym in their entire life insist on acting like tough shit with people who actually do.
