Ask a peace officer anything. Image related.

What police car is your favorite?
Do you still use P71's ?
>>676875050
Dear mr. Occifer,
How does it feel to know that you'll eventually die by a nigger with a gun?
>>676875505
God I hope not. I browse some fucked up shit on 4chan...

The new explorers we have are the best; they have great room and its way easier to fit prisoners inside; those old crown vics have like, zero room in the back due to the cage (if you've ever been inside one you know what I'm talking about)
>>676875776
No way. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Every day I'm ready for war.
why a peace officer? do you intend to move into policing after some resume building or are the qualifications significantly different?
(Picture of the explorer for reference)
>>676876150
Peace Officer = Police Officer, different agencies give it different titles depending on how 'feel good' they want to be. I carry a gun, a badge, and arrest people.
Could you write up 200 tickets before lunch?

How long can i drive without a license without being caught? Its already been about three years.
What city/state do you work in?
Biggest problem in said city?
Heard they really started cracking down on speed laws recently. Any truth to that?
My ex works for SDPD i was in pendleton at the time i live in the bay area now.......fuckin whore

Dear Occifer,
Pic very related.

Are you harboring any illegal dubs? Because I'm watching.
>>676876496
Absolutely!
>>676876653
Well... I suppose you could get away with it forever? But bear in mind that driving without a suspended/revoked license is a violation of 14601 CVC and will result in your vehicle being towed/impounded for 30 days... so be careful!
>>676876805
I work for a city in San Diego County. The biggest problems right now are drugs (meth) and homeless related issues - however we recently did have a long month that involved a bunch of stabbings and car crashes...
>>676876972
Yes! I know that my agency got grant money for our traffic division to increase enforcement including speeding citations.
>>676877073
I feel like there is a story there... care to share?
>>676877080
That's not very nice. I (and many others) took this job to serve the community, protect people, enforce the laws (made by lawmakers that YOU voted for), and make money to feed our families - why would you want to see us (or any profession for that matter) be subjected to violence and/or death?
>>676875050

I didn't vote for any lawmakers that made these laws.

Would you bust somebody for sleeping in there car?

How hard is it to be a peace officer when there are niggers everywhere?
>>676875050
What's the best way to get into the force without having to be a traffic robot? I'm recently unemployed and sick of the trade I'm working in now so I've been considering becoming a police officer.
Also what's your general opinion of your job? Quality/pay etc..
>>676877465
I have nothing to hide! On a completely unrelated note I am choosing to exercise my constitutional right to not have my post searched for dubs... AM I BEING DETAINED?
>>676877641
Let's see....
Motorcycle Vs Semitruck - guy slipped on the bike in the rain and got caught in the wheel well of the truck (and drove for about 200'), it crushed his ribcage in, tore his arm off and cracked his helmet; he left a trail of skin smeared across the pavement... (it looks translucence like jellyfish)
Motorcycle Vs Vehicle - Got on scene and the biker was still alive! Massive internal trauma and he was being strangled by his helmet chin-strap - I cut the chin strap off to open the airway and performed CPR; he died in my arms with his blood all over me... that was rough...
Teenage Suicide - responded to a gunshot at a residence; made entry to find a 14y/o kid on his knees on the floor of his bedroom... he had blown his brains out with a handgun... he was still alive when I found him (well, body was alive but he was brain-dead) he was doing 'guppy breathing' where the body still thinks it's alive but its just doing the death spasms...
>>676877574
I live in San Diego county. Which part?
>>676875050
As someone from San Diego UCSD area. Fuck your online and phone call systems.
A lot of police officers have shown themselves to be delusional assholes.
It might have something to do with how you can't serve if you have a high IQ.
IQ isn't even that good at determining intelligence, it just gives you a general idea of "people 125+ are most likely more intelligent than 100-"
You can score well on IQ tests just by learning.
So the people who score low aren't just stupid, but they're also the kinds of people who can't be bothered to do shit with their brain.
Combine that with putting them in positions of power, and you get delusional fuck heads who shouldn't be roaming the streets with power in their hands.
>>676877920
Most aren't. Some are assholes, but good luck finding any profession that doesn't have SOME assholes working there. People don't like police because we have to enforce the rules and nobody likes being punished. Imagine if you were the parent and you only dealt with the rebellious teen portion of the population. It gets old fast!
>>676878024
I'm sorry to hear that /b/ro, partners who cheat while you are on deployment are literally the scum of the earth.
>>676878046
Well then I guess the rules don't apply to you eh sport?
>>676878246
That's not a crime anymore. Sleep anywhere just move your car every 72 hours.
>>676878352
Despite what TV tells you, you don't start in traffic. You start off in patrol which is waaaay worse because you will deal with all the radio calls. Traffic is a special assignment that you have to apply for. The only people who write tickets are either Volunteer Patrol or meter maids (not police officers). But I mean... as a police officer you CAN write all the tickets you want... if that's your thing...
>>676878791
I live in Scripps Ranch
There are never any cops here, and if there is, its for a reason
Did you hear about that really bad car crash in Scripps on Sunday? With the classic Porsche?
Would you bust someone if you caught them with cannabis?
How rewarding is it to catch the bad guys and pepper spray protestors? My two dreams have always been to be a police officer (big interest in SWAT and riot control) and a fighter pilot, and since I'm already going through AFROTC I might never experience what it feels like to handcuff a dindu.

Haha, yea... the online system. It's where we direct people who don't have a valid complaint. 'OMFG I had a party and now my Ipod nano is missing, 9-1-1 I was robbed!' Ok... please fill out an online report that we will promptly throw in the garbage because there is no way we are going to spend the time/effort to find your thing.
>>676878861
Ok... on one hand you say police officers are dumb because you 'can't' have an IQ to become a police officer... on the next hand you say that IQ isn't a good metric for intelligence?
All I can say is that doing this job involved QUICK thinking. You have to make immediately decisions and attempt to account for spirit of the law/letter of the law and personal safety. There are a lot of moving parts being a police officer. That's like saying you don't have to be smart to be a tight-rope walker, but 99% of the population couldn't do it because its damn hard.
>>676879217
Probably because Scripps Ranch is a nice area? Police are needed less in nice areas. I don't remember hearing about a car crash there on Sunday but I work the night shift so I was probably sleeping...

Nigga I saw the after math.
>>676879643
Nice try, Jerome, but getting rid of criminals IS serving the community.
>>676878358
FUCK. You've seen some shit.
Question: Is it legal for cops to speed beyond the speed limit without the blue lights on when not responding to a call? The cops in my area are notorious for doing 80+mph while just cruising the 65mph highway, but loooove writing citations for citizens going 70mph.
Is there anything I could do to combat this? Any chance I could write these cops a "citizens citation for endangering other drivers" or something comparable? And YouTube it, perhaps?
Is there actually a quota for how many tickets an officer has to disperse?
>>676879966
That was next to my neighborhood.
I was there before the cops arrived.
What's your Snapchat m8?
>>676879260
No, that is like, the least of my worries. The way this state/country is going if I find someone with marijuana on them I just pretend I didn't see it and put it back. I'm only concerned with hard drugs (meth/heroin) because those junkies are the ones that cause the problems. The only thing a stoner is going to do is facility the economy by buying some taco bell.
>>676879334
Catching bad guys can be a mixed bag. They are almost always not 'bad' per se, just stupid/drunk/high/addicts. The only BAD people that I've arrested were people who act with no regard for others (IE strong-arm robberies) where they think they can just punch someone and take their stuff, robbers in general and/or rapists.
SWAT doesn't deal with protestors, if you want to be on riot control you need to join the S.E.D. team (goes by different names for different agencies) they get special crowd control training... it involves getting a lot of beanbags thrown at your dick (not kidding)
>>676879375

>>676880087
Technically no. Realistically yes? Nobody is going to stop them. Also, its a 'RED' light that we have to have engaged (plus an audible siren) which gives us permission to break the vehicle code. However I never write people tickets for going 80... I mean, it's California! If you aren't doing 80 on the freeway you are part of the problem. Now 90+ that becomes and issue...
>>676880176
No quota, but you do get reviewed based on your 'proactive activity' which is stuff you do that doesn't originate from a radio call. So if you don't do jack shit all day but sit in your car jerking off to 4chan, expect to get talked to.
>>676880857
I ask you if you've been smoking marijuana. If you have bloodshot eyes or look like you are lying, I ask you to step out of the car for a field sobriety test. Part of the test involves checking the eyes (the eyes never lie) and someone who is under the influence of cannabis cannot converge their eyes (I touch my finger to your nose and if your eyes don't follow/go cross eyed) thats sufficient for me to place you under arrest for DUI.
>>676880995
The background process takes forever. They act like you are joining the president's security detail or something. Please answer this, how do you feel about gun control or the opposite? Do you think people having guns facilitates your job or makes it worst? Would you rather be a police officer in a society like Japan or the UK were there aren't many guns around?
It seems like you are always jumpy and ready to shot somebody because you are scared that you'll get shot, yet you hardly hear police departments say anything about gun control.
>>676881693
I can always pass the eye tests that involve following your finger, even the convergence. But not testing the dilation. What if I don't agree to a field sobriety test? Does that just make me guilty af, or standing up for my rights?

Black people tend to be more disobedient for NO apparent reason. Even when they aren't doing anything its like they take personal offense to a lawful order and do everything they can to be difficult. My partner almost tasered a guy because he refused to take his hands out of his sweater pockets when we showed up to a fight at his house. We told him three times and his response was 'fuck you,' he had no weapons on him and almost got hurt because he chose to be a difficult dumbass (he got taken down and handcuffed)
>>676881066
I'm tolerant of pot and smoking... but I treat it like alcohol, you really can't operate a 2 ton vehicle while high (look at the previous crashes I talked about) you can really hurt someone. As such I don't have tolerance for driving under the influence of anything (including pot). So you get the DUI.
>>676881516
Its all bogus. They have you fill out a questionnaire with a TON of questions on it. Anything they think is suspicious or they just want to ask about they will ask you like, THREE times on the polygraph, then they will make up bullshit like 'hmm... your readings look weird on this answer, do you have anything to confess?' it's all a mind game to trick you into saying you lied on the form, lying = an immediate disqualification, so if you are going to lie, commit to the lie!
>>676881710
You're my boy. Mention ZPD when you get pulled over and you aren't getting shit for a ticket, I don't care if you are doing 100+ through a school zone.
>>676881806
Gun control is a nice dream but it will never happen. 1) I don't want us to turn into weenies like the UK where nobody has guns (the bad guys will just use a knife of MAKE a homemade gun, amazingly easy to do) 2) People can use guns to legally defend themselves against attackers. 3) criminals are still going to carry guns illegally anyway so all criminalizing firearms would do is hurt law-abiding citizens... (con't for char limit)
My ex failed to pay her car bills under my credit (I know now that's a dumb move)
any recommendations?

She does have a criminal record and I don't btw

In my state the light bars are blue-- the Fire and Rescue vehicles have red lights.
So, you're saying that essentially there is no legal approval for the cops to speed without lights/sirens. What sorts of measures could a citizen do to combat this from happening? If I cannot write them a citizens citation, and calling the police is nothing more than a hysterically funny thought... what could work?
I already have countless dashcam footage of this happening on a daily basis. How should/could I use this footage?
Seriously contemplating following the officers to their destinations, approaching them (innocently and politely, of course-- I'm not out to hurt or provoke) and asking them why they were speeding, and perhaps use the "law" they enforce against their hypocrisy.
Record the entire scenario with my dash cams and micro body camera. Post to YouTube. Monetize vids. Profit.
So my main question to you, I suppose, is... what should I say to the officers when confronting them? Imagine, if you will for a moment, a scene like this taking place.
Please describe.

But automatic weapons do need to be regulated. There is little need (aside from muh-revolution) for joe average to have an automatic rifle at home. People don't realize how much damage those things (and rifles in general can do). I urge anyone who doesn't have experience with firearms to go to a range and test a few out before having an opinion of gun control.

Unless she committed fraud by using your credit to apply for the car loan I'm afraid that there is nothing criminal for her to be prosecuted for.
>>676882899
What you COULD do if you really cared is write down the number on the patrol vehicle and call in a citizen complaint. Those things DO actually get taken seriously and get put in the officer's file. While one complaint is unlikely to generate anything, (unless they pull the dash cam footage which records speed) because you could be crazy/wrong/whatever
if the SAME officer gets repeated complaints due to his driving they will give him written reprimand which is a big mark on his record that will count against him for future promotions/assignments, etc.
If you have dashcam footage send that in along with your complaint. The Sgt. will review it and make a determination.
I would be wary about 'following and confronting' the officer. You never know why they are speeding. There are times when we need to respond 'quickly' but not code 3 (lights/siren) to a call due to various circumstances, so you may be unintentionally putting yourself in danger by going wherever he is going; plus if you do confront him, he can easily blow you off - you want to inform the supervisor who will NOT blow you off.

On what grounds could they arrest me, though? If I have committed no crime, I am not being combative, nor hostile, and I have nothing illegal within my possession, how could they arrest me?
The First Amendment is, afterall, the first right they are obligated to protect and enforce (as it was the first right and law ever written in this country and thus the foundation for all other laws and rulings that follow after it). as officers of the law.
So, if it is within my right, and I have committed no offence... how could they arrest me?
(Also, for the record, I'm not just trying to be a dick, nor to provoke, nor am I angry in any fashion. I just seriously want to make YouTube vids for a living and I'm trying to be as thorough as possible. You should probably expect an answer that somewhat validates their speeding (heading to assist another officer, trying to catch up to a car without necessarily being noticed by the vehicle etc).. what you might additionally get is a citation for speeding and maybe reckless driving for following the officer with your own dash cam as evidence of that. Even without the lights, he can still be acting in an official capacity and not just speeding to speed. That being said, police officers have been charged criminally for accidents due to their driving (even with the emergency equipment activated) and have been sentenced to prison time. End result would probably be a pretty lame you tube video that after watching, most people would probably write you off as being a dick.

Definitely file complaint with the supervisor like OP said and if you have enough recorded incidents you could go to your local news and see if they'd run a story about it. Although they may not if they're worried about pissing off the po-po's and not getting stories/interviews from them in the future.

>1) I don't want us to turn into weenies like the UK where nobody has guns (the bad guys will just use a knife of MAKE a homemade gun, amazingly easy to do)
You are against gun regulation because you don't want to be labeled a weenie? What are you 8? And yeah like a knife is as dangerous as a gun. If I'm going to be assaulted I rather it be with a knife than with a gun. And yes, Every "bad guy" in Japan made their own guns at home.
>2) People can use guns to legally defend themselves against attackers.
No shit. If atomic bombs were legal then people could use atomic bombs "legally" to defend themselves against attackers.
>3) criminals are still going to carry guns illegally anyway so all criminalizing firearms would do is hurt law-abiding citizens
Do you really think that gun regulation proponents think that increasing gun regulation will magically make bad guys hand in their guns? No, it's a process. First you stop guns from falling in the hands of stupid people and then try to get the guns from stupid people. Saying that removing guns will happen overnight is just Straw man from rednecks that they made up about gun control proponents.

It also needs to be said that a police officers day, particularly when officers have a lot of real estate to cover, is filled with a ton of disregards. Meaning an officer initiates a stop on a vehicle or person or receives a dispatched call and gives a disregard to other units responding to their location for backup. This could mean that the officer that just passed you is now stopped on a corner somewhere or even pulling in to a store to get something to drink because there is no longer a need for him to respond to that location.

If you could, 100% legally, nobody ever finds out, eat human meat...would you?

I would personally do it, and go for a cut around the small of the back, or maybe the ribs.
I think about what human meat tastes like at least once a month, but i'm never going to act on that curiosity, it's too risky. I legitimately wouldn't mind donating my corpse to curious cannibals, as long as they promise to fucking cook their cuts instead of eating it raw like a filthy animal or japanese person.
I also legitimately believe that an extremely regulated, heavily monitored, and government controlled human meat market could solve a lot of problems. Hunger issues and murder-cannibals being some of those problems. As long as the meat is healthy, and you AVOID nerve-rich areas and ESPECIALLY the grey matter, it's perfectly safe.

what do you think about the idea "no victim, no crime" ?
do you attempt to trick people into waiving their rights, for example by tricking or intimidating them into consenting to searches?
do you think it's always wrong to initiate force against peaceful people?
do you think non-violent drug offenders should be in prison?
if you witnessed a fellow cop committing a serious crime would you turn them in?
Mr. Occifer, why do you guys always run reds/stop signs by flicking your siren on and off. It pisses me off to no end, is there something I'm able to do?
Dude, question.
We have a speed trap in my hometown where cops literally make up shit to pull you over and look in your car. Well, I got busted at the WORST possible time. I'd just been to the DMV and got sent home to get more forms to renew my registration and license, as they both just expired. Cop literally made up a reason to pull me over, and then saw that shit.
He ticketed me for outdated registration andexpired drivers license, which was only a month expired. However, my state offers a grace period of 5 months on expired licenses. Idk if that matters or not.
This happened on Friday. Monday, I had everything taken care of. New license and registration. Is there anyway I can get out of this ticket? What should I do? Also, if I'm fucked, any idea how much this shit may cost me?

No victim no crime is very upsetting most of the time. People want criminals punished, but when it comes time for THEM to be a part of the process... suddenly they don't want to be bothered?
There really isn't any need to trickery, but sometimes we are reaching the finish line and I'll let you decide how we get there.
Example:
I catch you doing something illegal (minor offense) and I want to search you because you look like a criminal - IE look like a tweaker/gangmember/etc.
You can either CONSENT to a search, meaning you give me permission to search and if I find nothing its a done deal.
You can refuse to consent, so I'll place you under arrest for the minor offense (so you are getting a ticket/transported to the station) and I can legally search you INCIDENT to ARREST.
So I'm searching you, the only difference is whether you want to force me to arrest you first. If you have nothing to hide then you are better off consenting so that I will let you off with a warning (IE because I don't want to do paperwork for the stupid offense).
...or maybe I'm bluffing and I want to see what your answer is? If you say yes I can search then the odds of you having something are slim and I won't waste my time. If you say no maybe I'll think thats because you HAVE something on you and I want to see if its worth my time to arrest/search you... its a mind game!
depends on your definition of 'peaceful,' our use of force describes it as levels of compliance. you can be using passive-resistence (I.E. refusing to move/obey orders) which can result in the use of force (picking you up, forcing you to move, etc.) Officers are there to SOLVE the problem, but not escalate it!
non violent drug offenders should not be in prison, but there should be court-ordered rehab programs.
Yes I would report them

>>676891627
Go to court. Ticket should be thrown out immediately once you prove your license/registration are updated
Would inmates call me a fish?
>>676892048
thanks for the answers... what i mean by no victim no crime, is the idea that if no one has been harmed, then a crime hasn't been committed, regardless of law / statute. for example, if i drive 100 mph down an empty highway in the middle of the night, and no one is harmed, then there is no victim.
do you disagree with the idea that americans have a duty to disobey unjust laws? if i lived in a time period where slavery was legal, i would have illegally helped slaves escape or harbored them as fugitives... can you see how morality and law are not always aligned?
i understand that police departments have a use of force policy, here's an interesting example, the cop who maced the protesters sitting on a sidewalk at the university... that went viral.. i'm more interested in your view on morality than dept policy.. if someone isn't aggressive, doesn't it feel wrong to use FORCE on them..

Get the registration up to date and renew the driver's license. Go to traffic court and (if) the officer shows up show the judge that the paperwork was taken care of and the judge will drop the charges; it happens all the time. (there will be like, a 10$ court processing fee)
>>676892117
That's my EDC minus my phone which I used to take the picture...
>>676891627
not OP but,
If your state gives you a grace period, then show up to court with everything valid and they will dismiss it. As far as making something up, you would be surprised how much there is in the vehicle codes that you can be stopped over. Did he write you a citation for this other made up offense? Just fyi, having an expired registration is pc to initiate a stop on the vehicle. The expired registration, and the expired drivers license are compliance tickets that depending on the judge, usually get dismissed if you actually comply. Not sure about your hometown judges though. As far as a fine, you were operating an unlicensed vehicle without a valid drivers license. The officer has nothing to do with the fines. If you live in an area that is cash strapped and rapes its citizens through fines than it could cost you. Where I am, they typically dismiss the fines with compliance but will charge a court fee of up to around $200.
>>676892487
Thanks, man. I REALLY fucking hope that's the case. I just can't afford a ticket right now and granted, it's a rightful ticket, it was literally just the worst time for me to get pulled over.

You can protest against them you can use the political system; but until the laws are changed you will suffer the punishment the law provides for breaking the law. I can see where you are coming from ideologically but ideology doesn't help you much from inside a jail cell unless you want to be the 'face' of reform.
Yes, we don't like using force when it is uncalled for. It looks messy and the public doesn't like it (even when its necessary). There were other solutions that could have been employed for moving those protestors such as control holds.

I would report them because it isn't worth MY job and the risk of MY imprisonment to hide them if they did something illegal. It is a selfish thing to report another because it is protecting yourself at their expense. And it isn't right for a partner to put you in the position where you have to risk those things for them.

OP, a lot of people commit peaceful civil disobedience, it is a proven method of reform and is also part of the spirit of american culture and values. america was never intended to be a police state... there are many laws on the books that the majority of americans disagree with and regularly break with impunity. most people don't care about "punishing criminals" but most people DO care about bringing justice for people who were actually victimized / harmed.

Not op,
In a lot of states, that is illegal. IMO, if the officer did not know at the time of the stop if they were or were not illegal, he should not have initiated a stop. There is so much that can happen during a traffic stop and the situation could escalate to something serious based on what the driver does of has that you need to be pretty solid on your pc from the very start. Granted, the vehicle codes are pretty extensive and in reality, it is doubtful that an officer knows EVERYTHING in it. However, the blue lights might have made him notice your vehicle in the first place and then also the expired registration. You should definitely check and remove them if they are illegal in your state.

sure, you are certainly correct that human beings are often corrupt and mistaken, and use poor judgement. and certainly, politicians are not exempt from these facts. actually i would argue that the positions of authority and power tend to attract corrupt and pathological individuals who want to use those positions to impose their flawed views on others
it is good that you recognize that the political class is flawed and sometimes corrupt.. but that means you must also acknowledge that the laws they write and pass can be corrupt / unjust as well.. and that when you enforce such unjust laws, you become complicit and are personally responsible for the harm you cause. we need americans ( cops ) who are principled and think for themselves, not those who merely enforce laws blindly.

Being an elected official doesn't make some elite or uncorruptible, but it does mean that if the elected official in question is corrupt, at leas the people can throw them out of office / vote them out... whereas with a local police department, you can't vote out officers even if the community wants them gone, it's all up to the beaurocracy. sheriffs are elected and if the people don't like the sheriff they can vote him out of office / choose another sheriff. police chiefs are generally appointed by politicians, the people don't really get a say in the matter... just something to consider.
Do you smoke weed or are you taking any other illegal drugs and would you say its necassary to never brake the law (with things like drug consuming) to be a policeman ?

>>676896454
Not op but did the post you responded to.
Many do not enforce blindly. However, in certain situations, there is no other choice. And you while people have a right to express themselves and protest, when it gets to the point where the crowd needs to be dispersed, well, no police officer is going to risk their jobs by refusing to act. And we are not talking about "following orders" in a nazi type of situation, but protesters who are no longer a peaceful protest or are refusing lawful orders to disperse. There are ways to change the laws that people do not agree with. In much of the country, the laws regarding cannabis are fading away. and rightfully so. I would ask that you get to know some police officers before you make an argument about their temperament, or moral values. I respect your opinion, but the media has a great influence on public opinion and often time spins things in a negative light against the police because the controversy sells papers or gets viewers. Police officers agree with most of society (we are a part of it too) that think this law or that law is archaic and should be changed. For the most part, these will be the same officers that give people breaks regarding these same laws. Thanks for sharing your opinion in an intelligent fashion.
>>676897471
It is quite the opposite. Departments are pretty much looking to make examples of officers in any kind of misconduct. It is to the point that if a police officer makes a mistake, regardless of the context, the states attorneys move to have criminal charges filed against them. While you cant vote out officers, if there are enough complaints that can be substantiated, departments are more than happy to publicly announce charges against that officer if applicable and/or fire him. Politicians are totally on board with the media and reverend induced war against the "racist and corrupt" police.
>>676897800
i think everyone in law enforcement should have their own individual moral compass. know your line in the sand. will you go door to door and confiscate people's firearms, if the president issues an executive order to do so? etc..
will you follow unlawful orders to disperse a peaceful assembly? ( has happened many times )
cannabis laws are a good example. the vast majority of americans agree that laws criminalizing cannabis use / possession are unjust, yet in most states these laws remain.. and even the federal laws remain.
mainly because of the "war on drugs" .. the us currently has over 2.2 million people in prison... with something like half of them non-violent offenders on drug charges.. the us has the highest percentage of it's population incarcerated of any developed nation.
that is not because of a few bad apples in law enforcement, that is because there is a systemic problems in our entire justice system and laws.. the majority of police officers sadly continue to enforce these unjust laws. my best friend growing up is now LE.. he's a good person, but we still disagree on a lot of things and he has enforced unjust laws.. my views are my own and based on facts, not mainstream media propaganda about police.
i appreciate your responses, keep on keepin on and take care out there.

>>676899746

>>676898845
Confiscate firearms from citizens because the pres says to? No way. That is a pretty serious and major situation. Being a police officer is just a job. It is a dangerous job, but it is not worth increasing that danger by doing something so drastic. Not only would I not agree with the principal of that order, but my life is worth more than some politicians whim to grab peoples guns.
Peaceful assembly is debatable. The average officer out on the street does not know the overall picture. They are on one corner or another monitoring their area. An order to disburse a crowd is just something that comes over the radio. They are not told why or any other reason why that order is given. It could be that on some other location, it is getting out of control. Are there situations where the higher ups have made that call to disburse prematurely? Without a doubt. But once that decision is made, all the officers on the street are acting to make sure each other goes home safe. If people listen to the orders given, there is seldom any kind of problem. But refusing to leave or starting to become aggressive creates a problem. And a peaceful protest of 500 people that spills out into the streets and blocks traffic during rush hour and disrupts 10k+ people leads to a majority of those disrupted saying "why arent the police stopping them?". And society (laws and such) are controlled by the majority.
>>676898845
and regarding unjust laws, what is unjust to you might not be considered unjust to others. It is when the majority of the society agree on it being unjust that they can successfully change it.
Thanks again.
>>676898845
>the vast majority of americans agree that laws criminalizing cannabis use / possession are unjust
[citation needed]
Even if the "vast majority" DID think that, you shouldn't use that as evidence for supporting it. Think for yourself, don't be a mindless follower. Most people don't even look for reliable, trustworthy information on a subject before forming an opinion on it.
>>676900309
well, it's good to hear you're not alright with grabbing guns. it's an interesting example you use regarding dealing with assemblies. i can understand that orders come over the radio from dispatch and police from multiple locations follow orders to coordinate their actions.
but cops on the ground should also use their discretion. you can clearly see if a gathering is peaceful. it raises another question, lets say you have multiple protests in a city... a handful of protesters become agitated, but it is 10 blocks away. do you declare ALL gatherings in the city unlawful and disperse them, because of a handful of bad actors?
tactics like agent provacateurs have been used in the past by corrupt officials. undercover le will be ordered to go into the crowd and incite violent, themselves start throwing things, become aggressive with other protesters, etc..
then LE declares the assembly unlawful and forces EVERYONE to disperse, based on a few bad actors.. this is a common and convenient tactic for politicians to disrupt unwanted political actions they do not want to tolerate.
there isn't a clear line when an entire assembly is no longer peaceful, but a few bad actors certainly doesn't make it unawful. also i think the 1st amendment is more important than not inconveniencing some commuters... direct traffic around protests, imo.
>>676901043
i have my own experience and facts i base my opinion on regarding cannabis, as well as my own principles as to what liberty means regarding what people should be free to put in their own bodies. but the focus of the conversation was that of a majority opinion... i am more oriented towards individual liberty, even if a majority is ignorant and doesn't support individual liberty.

Ideally there would be no arrest made. But, you might get that officer who decides that you need to go one way or the other. Most departments only mandate an arrest when there is physical evidence of violence and some other form of action if there is none in domestic situations. Living together does constitute a domestic situation regardless of your romantic involvement. That could be one party deciding to leave for the evening. BUT, the officer might not be willing to take the liability of leaving both parties in the same residence. This is one of those no win situations. Leave them both there and later there is violence, than it is "why didn't the officer do something to prevent this." Just arrest someone and than it is "why did they arrest me when I didn't do anything. If there were any solid evidence that she was lying, she could then be arrested for making a false report. But barring that, you leave the officer with a problem to solve. Depending on where you live, refusal to leave could lead to your arrest. If you leave, most likely a report would be generated in which the officer would document everything including the reason that he did not arrest you (i.e. a lack of evidence, contradictory statements etc.). If you refuse the suggestion, than he can just have her sign a complaint against you and arrest you. That definitely solves the problem for the evening and does negate any liability on the officers part. Sure, you can try to sue the department for wrongful arrest, but it will get dismissed as this is a domestic situation and the complainant signed the complaints. You would have to sue her. You are already doing the best thing you can do which is moving.

I don't trust people with their own freedoms. If you give someone an inch, they try their damndest to take a mile, even if there are dire consequences for taking the mile. Fuck, even if there's a bear at the end of that mile, ready to maul you when you arrive. Even if that bear is a werebear, so you go home and murder your family later that month when the full moon rises.
People want to do whatever the fuck they want to without thinking of the consequences, both for themselves and for others. They bitch about shit like the pursuit of happiness, and dreams and aspirations, but that's a load of bullshit. You don't need freedoms to be happy. If anything, a rigid and easily-defined structure to stay within is an easier life, and there's less to think about and stress out over. A strong , heavily-influential government is optimal, as long as the government doesn't give in to corruption.
>>676903095
i think people are mostly good, and i trust them with their freedoms for the most part. for those that abuse that freedom, that's why we have self defense.
i think it's a bad and foolish idea to give people positions of authority and power, with a monopoly on force ( aka government ) .. i think such positions are attractive to the most corrupt and pathological, they offer a position from which corrupt can carry out evil with near impunity..
I prefer liberty to bondage. Here's my last post / quote, to end this nice exchange ( and it sums up my personal feelings nicely regarding your post:
“If you love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”
― Samuel Adams

I know officers who do go in disguised as just another protester, but their function is to gather information and point out the agitators that do not want to peacefully protest and who would rather instigate by throwing items and damaging property. They radio that information and those individuals, if possible, are removed without incident and the rest of the protesters can continue protesting. Cops LOVE to tell war stories and if there were any such individuals that are acting as agent provocateurs, I would probably know. However, I will concede that that was probably a tactic back in the day and may still be used without my knowledge in other places. But I have not heard of anything. I would think social media and video cameras everywhere including in everyone's pocket that has a cell phone has put an end to such covert shenanigans. But I can only speak of my personal experiences in which I have not heard of anything like that.
Peoples first amendment rights are important, but they should not be at the expense of other peoples rights to exist. You can make your voice available to be heard, but the minute you force me to listen to you act illegally and impede my freedom of movement, that is a problem.

The intelligence of the average person depends on the locale.
