I've had a small hand in figure sketching myself a very long time ago when I was a kid, my mother is an artist herself so maybe it runs through the family or something.
One thing I can tell you though is you are going to have to practice like crazy, you'll make dozens upon maybe hundreds upon who knows of how many different things, and it still may not look quite the way you want to. That infinite drive to perfection is the key to honing your skill, and consistently doing it helps build muscle memory, but you'll have to expect to work yourself quite a bit at least to get to that point.
But technical understanding will be just as important as that tenacity. Try to get a good understanding of the skeletal and overall physiological structures of humans and as well as the species of animals corresponding to the anthroes you'd like to draw.

Also try practicing with simpler shapes like a piece of furtiture or maybe a bowl of fruit. Getting used to drawing these things will also help build skill.
