I would agree. I find digital to be very challenging, but there are times when it's super nice. It's better to learn in a medium you have more control over, and develop your hand there, before moving on to digital media.
That being said, I can't tell you how many times I've thought "CTRL+Z!!!" while drawing only to realize that doesn't apply in real life.

Possibly, everyone is different. Honestly do what ever you feel most comfortable with. I would stick with one medium though, at least until you develop a strong set of skills and a good eye for what you're doing.

Well, I wouldn't say I'm experienced in digital media. I hardly ever use my tablet, but I do know that a lot of the fundamentals transfer between. I would wait, and if you feel comfortable investing in a tablet, then go for it.
I would also encourage you to work in black and white first just so you learn how to shade, and then move onto colors. Once you get good enough you could look into color theory. But, remember to have fun with what ever you're doing, if you're not having fun you're doing it wrong.
