Just merely reporting that there are image posters being split between two threads, slowing both threads down while keeping both on the front page. That was what lead to these threads getting deleted by mods, though to be fair that was mostly instigated and perpetuated by people racing to make the "new thread".
Why that was such a big deal, I dunno. Just would rather not see these threads being deleted 5 minutes after they've been up because they've "infected the board" again.

Why is it that SpaceX uses powered descent?
Wouldn't it be cheaper - both financially and in terms of delta-v expenditure - to deploy a parachute like they did with the Space Shuttle's SRBs?

That would require a water landing which requires more refurbishing and a spent liquid fuel rocket is heavier than a spent solid rocket stage.
Also powered decent has more precision, so a parachute would be easier but would require more work and a slower turn around.

The barge is only to be used until a landing pad is built at the other launch site, when they landed the stage on a solid pad on the ground it was a successful landing.
breaking rockets would work yes but again a parachute decent has little to no control, the aim of the game here is absolute control of the vehicle.
This is also good practice as the manned dragon capsule will eventually use powered decent to land and a parachute only for emergencies.

Ive also contacted Copenhagen Suborbitals and chatted about capsule design and With Dr. Cameron Smith over pressure suit construction.
