I have no idea what kind of future lies ahead. Wonder what will happen with all this Syria situation and relations with western countries.
I Hope when Putin Steps down that there will somebody who is similar. I believe that Putin together with Lavrov are the best Statesmen we have in Europe. In my opinion they have been responsible for stopping The USA of completly destroying the Middle East. I hope Russia will continue supporting Assad and help destroy ISIS in the future no matter who will be their Leader. As for what will happen to Russia itself when Putin steps down I don't really know since it is difficult to find unbiased reports of public opinion of the russian government.

I go on trips to country side here and its realy scary. Empty villages. Occasionaly an old grandma or bearded old man. Everybody left to the big cities for a dollar. Problem with Russia is that it is prideful and nationalistic. Well, much like the US. The difference is that while Russia wants to be treated same as the US, it can't compete with it neither economically nor militarily. So there is that. When Putin steps down I doubt that he would allow some street bomzh to take over the country, likely someone from their own circle, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Neither is Putin necessarily a bad thing for Russia (at least probably).
Problem with the west is that the west and Russia probably won't understand each other for quite a while. While west perceives Russia more of a backwards country to have business with (although recently sometimes praised as the paramount of resistance to the US hegemony), Russia perceives the west as a threat for various reasons, internal and external (especially US). It's handy to have an image of a common enemy within a (mostly) non-democratic state. Threat unites people, especially when it comes to nationalism, which is needed in case of Russia as it is a vast federation composed out of various cultures (state also owns the majority of relevant TV stations, from which 80% of people gets most of the info, like news and such, not as many people use internet as primary source of information yet, but it is changing gradually, but so do Russian laws regarding that, making it harder to maneuver within the internet). External reasons mostly because Russia still has remnants of the Soviet mentality of the West (west vs us), while west isn't as united as many Russians think. Every country pretty much follows its own interests. For example NATO, nobody forces other countries to take part in NATO, it's not some american dictatorship or anything. It's beneficial to both, the US as the prominent member of the alliance, and the other members which can spend less on their military, save up on money and specialize their own military in particular fields. -character limit-

I also wanted to add a thing regarding NATO. It is also partly West's fault for Russia perceiving NATO as a threat. NATO was specifically established to face the Soviets. After the fall of the USSR, not much or rather not enough was done to change that view. From both sides. West hasn't done enough to change their own stigma against Russians and change Russians' stigma against the West. Same applies for the Russian side.
Another reason why both sides won't understand each other is that although the west doesn't sometimes follow its own ideals of democracy and free speech, those qualities are deeply engraved into the system. So if anything, those things fail due to the inactivity of the people. Systematically, people still can make a huge difference. In Russia, people do not have the much needed systematical tools to effectively control the political situation. Not that they would if they could (I mean, people rarely involve in politics these days) but things like that are important. Systematically, Russia is not a democracy in the "western" sense. It has different kind of values, regime, etc. So even on a cultural level there are some misunderstandings

Can't tell much about inner-political situation of Russia, I haven't particularly studied it. Much depends on the public opinion I suppose, given that the government pays so much attention and effort to it (sorta like a vicious circle, government feeds the public opinion and public opinion feeds the government). But in case of international situation, it depends on how the Syrian crisis will be resolved and what is going to happen in Ukraine. The West largely "forgot" about Russia until the Ukrainian crisis kicked in. If things become stable and cool down, I suspect the relations with Russia will stabilize. But then again I do not know how Russia will behave since it largely depends on the inner-political situation. Russia is a very conservative country with nationalistic tendencies so one thing it can do to help the reconciliation is opening up more to the west.
P.S. For future reference to everyone talking about West and US being shillz and me being a shlomo, I could criticize US and the West for hours, they have tons of bullshit themselves but the topic is Russia, hence my stance.

Sadly true. Russian culture has a long history and at times its particularly deep. Tolstoy, Pushkin and Dostoyevskiy wrote beautiful things. Russia, like most big names in world politics has a bad habbit of starting shit where none is needed. I am not implying the intervention in Syria was a mistake, but the events of Ukraine will not fade. A short rush of arms race is bound to occur.

I sense another cold war in the air, and bad times for the middle and lower middle class Russians. Regardless of the financial problems, Russia should really invest in fixing the problems in its public sector.
Future conflicts are unpreventable if Russia has no means of communicating and trading with rest of the world. A large part of this relies heavily on the states ability to bring up it's citizens and bring regular everyday luxury to it's peoples lives.
