My name must remain anonymous. The names in this event have been changed. I recieved a bachelors in biology at the University of Alberta, and got my PCP at Kelsey Campus, in Saskatchewan. I am a Search and Rescue (SaR) technician in the Canadian Armed forces, one of the finest SaR units in the world. I specialize in hazardous rescues, my job consists of everything from abseiling from helicopters in mountains, to deep see diving for recovery missions. I spent six months in Jamaica helping train their own SaR detachment. Wednesday, I was on a mission that nearly cost me and my team's lives. 0500 (5AM) > I am awoken in my bunk by shouts from my crew members. My close friend, Guy, flashes on my lights and starts throwing my gear on the bed. In a haze, I dress for what I think is a standard dispatch. I realized I was dead fucking wrong when I saw Special Forces (JTF2) units being deployed on our airstrip and getting in to Griffons. I was about to board my helicopter when a dispatcher a man I do not recognize asked me to sign some large document, like everyone else on my crew, I barely looked at the it and scribbled down a signature. It was something similar to a non-disclosure agreement I think. I fell asleep in the copter ride.
0800 >> We landed in some snowy-as-fuck mountainous area and had to hike the rest of the way. The Griffon's pilot was someone I didn't know which is unusual. The JTF2 guys were completely silent and started assembling crude white camo tents in a flat surface overlooking a ravine. Me, Guy, and another one of my team members named Trish were given no information on why the fuck we were there for the next twelve hours. I had no cell phone service. I sat in a tent cold as all hell reading a Dance with Dragons. I was told to remove my bright orange jumpsuit and was given a snow camouflage one.

I caught a glimpse before they pushed me back out into the hall. There was so much fucking blood. Jesus Christ you guys. I can see every bit of it when I close my eyes. Why was there so much entrails.. It was two bodies, and a cat I think. All torn to shreds. We began to walk down the hallway and into a child's bedroom where bloody footprint led to. The SF cleared it and motioned for me to enter. A JTF2 guy put his hand under the bed and pulled out a tiny girl. She looked scared to death, but she was a sweet little thing. I checked her over for wounds and as I began an SF guy was giving her a candy bar to calm her down she looked at me and said "Did you get him-"...

At that moment I heard the worst noise I have ever heard in my life. Imagine the zombies from Half life 2. But it was filled with so much pain and anger.. fuck.. it was so god damned loud. My left ear is still ringing. It came from the doorway. The next thing I knew someone had pounced on my back and pinned me to the ground. He was about to smash my face into the floor when the SF guy grabbed his hair and drove a knife under his chin. I looked at the corpse. It was a man, about 6'7". Skinny as fuck. Probably one hundred pounds. He was completely naked and covered in blood. His face was so torn up, I realized that it was self inflicted. By the looks of it, he had torn off his own ears. Jesus it was bad.
We took the girl out of the house and Guy inspected me for wounds. The corpse was taken outside and put into a bag we loaded into a sled. We thought we were done. that was not the case. The SF guys rushed us to a ball diamond Surrounded by trees. The only car was another police cruiser with its doors all open. We went into the diamond which was covered in snow. We saw someone hunched over in the outfield. He has his gun in his mouth. He looked at us with the saddest eyes I have ever seen. He was sobbing.

I ran over to him and tackled him. I was assisted by the an SF who removed the gun from his hands and then zip tied them behind the cops back, for his own safety. We were about 10 yards from the trees when I realized why he was going to kill himself. He has shot a young boy in the face. I examined the boy, he was as white as a ghost. I looked up to Guy who was about 3 feet from the trees when we heard a similar scream from before. A lady wearing a blood soaked dress emerged and started clawing at Guy, she nearly killed him. she then doubled over in pain and held her forearms to her ears as though she was in severe pain. The SF shot her in the skull with the officers pistol. I cried for the first time in over a decade. We loaded the other two bodies into the sleigh.
The cop was sedated and left inside his cruiser, handcuffed to the steering wheel with no keys for the ignition. I realized why we couldn't help him. Something was wrong. Something is wrong. Someone fucked up and we were sent in to clean up the mess.

We made our way back to the outskirts of the town and ascended the mountain again where we were evacuated out. I have been told nothing about what happened. They did a psych test on me when we traveled North to our base. We arrived at sunrise. I was given a psych evaluation when I returned. A man in a suit waved the papers I had signed in my face and yelled at me about what would happen if I told anyone about that night. I was given two weeks leave. On my way back to my parents house I called the local AM radio station. I was knocked off air within 2 minutes of my story. Ever since then, 2 government vehicles have been following me. They removed my blog before I was able to post my story and I fear that they will imprison me if I tell my family. I am sitting in a coffee shop right now writing this. I didn't want to use my own network. I hope because this is on a subreddit which often hosts fiction it will go under their radar for a while until some people can see it.

Here is what I know from talking to the SF and Guy after the incident.
The victims were unwilling participants of an amphetamine-like fungus test. The drugs gave them unimaginable pain but only after they were released. They went back into their lives as drug addicts, robbers, etc. Something would trigger in them and they would lose all function. At first, they lost a lot of weight, then they became psychotic. Eventually they heard something that set them off and they lost it. I do not know how many people participated in that study. My guess is in the hundreds. Some were found and taken to psych wards. However, I found out that many of them were never located. Apparently, for the last 4 month all over North America, at least 30 cases of this have happened. They are all kept under wraps of course. In some stories the victims will enter a house and just walk around aimlessly while the family sleeps, stopping and watching from the bed side. If nothing sets them off they leave. However, what happened at the house I went to is one of the parents yelled at the man, this set him off.
I do not know where you live. Just please, keep your doors locked. I realize that these are rare occurrences. I feel I need to get this information out some how. This is all I can do. I will be labeled a lunatic if I go public. This will pass over eventually. The government is doing everything they can to keep people safe. They are not always successful though.
