I can't stand Tinder, because the process is obnoxious, buuuut I also scored my first serious gf thanks to it, so I can't hate on it too much.
It'll make you aware of how incredibly average and uninteresting most people are (at least on Tinder), which can be kind of an ego boost if you actually have interests, pursuits, and experiences. I had a handfull of hookup experiences through Tinder as well, but didn't really liked the canned nature of just meeting up, pretending to be interested in each other, just to fuck away each others frustrations for a night, before continuing on with life as if you'd never even met.
It's what you make of it. I developed game, learned how to talk to women, and was able to just become a well socialized dude thanks to Tinder (in a way that didn't burn or bash bridges in my immediate social circle), but once you get to the point where you're social and interesting it isn't really the best use of your time (just swiping and messaging on the off chance that somebody really wants to talk back. I do better just meeting people through activities I'm engaged in. It's definitely a good training-wheels program though.

Only if you look attractive enough (within reason, dudes can get away with being a bit odd looking if they have other redeeming qualities) can hold a conversation and have a basic clue about how to go on a good date.
Dinner and movie are not a good choice for meeting someone for instance, I personally prefer a cup of coffee and a walk in the park. Dogparks are a good choice too, and you don't even need to own a dog (I do, total chickmagnet), it's just fun to watch them play and interact.
The trick is to talk to them only for long enough to develop some interest, then move off the app into the regular world. I avoid cheesy canned openers, but they seem to work for some people, so find your angle. Happy hunting stalker.
