I have a 6 year old brother and I've never spanked him, and I certainly don't intend to. If he does something wrong, I tell him why it's wrong, and why he shouldn't do it again. Building this rapport with him means that if I tell him not to do something, he doesn't do it. I'm fair and patient with him because he's a kid, and I think that spanking doesn't allow for that.
