Yes we know. Hillary had more individual votes than Donald.

However, due to the way that votes are counted in America via the Electoral College (a completely obsolete and outdated function, by the way, which is pointless in this day and age) the technical winner of the election (minus the Russian interference, the admitted vote altering, et cetera) plus or minus a few million legitimate votes was: Donald Trump.

Am I happy about it? No. Would I be happier with Shillary? Nope.

It was a vote between a Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich. If you refute this, or hold any emotional support of EITHER candidate, you are a literal PAWN in THEIR GAME.

((((THEIR)))))) GAME

Are you ignorant to what the DNC did and how it was run during the election? Perhaps you need to look into it a little. See how dirty pool works in the democrat party. Trump didn't buy off his primary opponents, Hillary did. When Bernie couldn't be bought, she simply bought the primary election machine- the DNC.

The Electoral College system isn't exactly new, everyone knew EXACTLY how shit would be won at the end of the day. Everyone knew from the start that you can win the popular vote and still lose the election. Regardless, it's already been PROVEN that Hillary had outside help, is a criminal, and will change her "views" to gain following. The only thing still being held to Trump this day is the alleged Russian interference, which has not been and most likely never will be proven.

It is neither obsolete nor outdated. If the Electoral College is outdated then so is the Senate, because they serve the same purpose: to balance majority rule.

The founders didnt believe in true democracy because that inevitably leads to the majority voting to suppress the rights of the minority, and justifying it because they voted. This is why America is not a democracy. It is a republic.

>>
>>751596281

The Electoral College hardly serves as an effective buffer between mob mentality and majority rule. There are no debates between electoral voters over who should be president; most in fact are required by law to vote in line with their state's outcome and the rest do it anyways. So what you end up with is majority's will by each individual state distorting the real majority will of the entire nation.

The Senate, on the other hand, holds debates, forums, commissions, investigations, drafts policies, listens to experts, negotiates, and at times votes for necessary legislation that the majority of their constituents disagree with.

The two are completely and utterly different in form and function.

But American democracy is fucking stupid. The electoral college is probably the most well-known distortion of elections but you also have gerrymandering which draws districts for the intention of partisan gain, regardless of how realistically they represent the political ideologies of their residents.

Honestly, America would be much better off under a European style of democracy. It better balances the will of the people with the need to keep hold of mob mentality.

I don't really understand.

Electoral votes are allocated by a state's number of Congressional representatives and senators, not by county. Beyond this, Washington D.C. has three electoral votes. So a city (and blue area) of roughly 600,000 has as much power as Delaware (grey area), pop. 900.000, in determining who becomes President.

In other words, because of the electoral college, some people's votes matter more than others. Imagine how that feels?

Also no matter how you spin it, allowing crowded shithole cities decide how an entire country to be ran is retarded.

Try new York State for example, due to NYC being part of the state, the majority of laws in New York are solely based off the city when the rest of the state is largely rural.
Taxes are sky high to support the city, laws that don't make sense in the countryside are from the city and infrastructure like electricity goes to the city.
I pay a 200 dollar a month school tax just because of NYC despite living 4 hours away from there. You would think that having a nuclear plant 6 miles from my house would drop energy costs, you're dead wrong, the majority of the electricity goes to the city.

Then obviously the country is too damn big and needs to break up. Don't blame me for a bunch of idiotic lines that you can't change or opt out of.
Also, you still need to prove me wrong that Madison's interest in muh tyranny of the majority was motivated by defense of the wealthy, or "opulent" classes as he called them, against the people who might not agree that the exclusive rights of the self-important are worth suffering for.

Not EU fag but I am somewhat knowledgeable about politics.

The EU has a parliament. Each country has a certain number of MEPs (representatives) based on population, with the max ceiling of 750 MEPs plus one President, who is chosen by the MEPs. Elections are held every five years. The President serves for 30 months.

The outcome of Presidential elections in your state is still largely based on NYC, because your electoral voters will vote in line with the majority of voters and voters are disproportionately in NYC.

1. More people pay attention to Congressional elections than local ones.

2. State legislatures are voted on at the same time and frequency as Congressional representatives, so they're hardly more accountable.

3. More people can name their Congressional representative than their state legislative representative.

"But hope for a change to the electoral college quickly faded.

Mark Weston, a historian of the electoral college and author of the “The Runner-Up Presidency,” said the amendment was filibustered and finally killed in the Senate by a group of Southern senators concerned that states with large populations would dominate elections. "

Whether or not the electoral college should be scrapped isn't the issue. The issue is that relying on popular vote is a complete failure alternative. So unless you can come up with a better alternative to the electoral college (popular vote should not have even the slightest consideration), then we are keeping the EC.

We are called the UNITED STATES of America, not the UNITED PEOPLE of America. States are the base units that represent our country, not individual people. When you look at any typical map of the USA, what do you see? I sure as hell don't see a people population map. I see it split by states. Therefore the election for our leader had better rely on the states in a fair way and not the people. If the popular vote decided everything then I GUARANTEE that states would attempt to cede from the country if too many elections are decided by elites in 1% of the surface area of the country.

The biggest shortcoming of the electoral college is exactly also represented by your brightness map. People have a VERY high degree of locality in their political opinions such that when you break it down enough, areas are typically 80%+ republican or 80%+ democrat. The amount of areas that are very closely split are extremely rare or else there'd be fighting in the streets in those areas.

So since there's a very high degree of locality, then just like that brightness map, if the bright areas are democrats, then the country is literally decided by only the light and those who live in the darkness will literally feel like they live in the darkness and are not seen in the slightest. They will feel worthless when everyone in the light decides every election. The dark states will cede from the country guaranteed when things don't go their way long enough. That's why the popular vote is a failure.
>>
>>751602181

Same thing would happen if they were elected by state legislatures, which are made of members of the same two parties who often push legislative agendas which are drawn up in advance by their party's national committees.

The political system is cucked at every level.

let's suppose you have an election for someone, and only texas and rhode island are allowed to vote.. if texas votes for one person, and rhode island votes for the other... by popular vote, texas would always be the one who picks. this is why we have the electoral college, because some of our states fall that way, texas usually votes republican, new york usually goes democrat, etc... we have this system in place so that people from one party or the other don't massively outweigh the other, we give each state a sort of point value in the EC, that way big ass texas can't outvote little old rhode island just based on sheer size alone.

Yeah but we've had two instances in the past 15 years where the popular will of the country directly conflicted with the beauty contest, anon. This needs to be addressed.

>>
>>751602573
No they don't. Every person in the united states is completely equal with each other. Your line of thinking in saying they live in the darkness is exactly why the popular vote is a failure. The elites in urban areas think they are lights and those outside are dregs and trash and not part of the USA. That's exactly why Trump won: because your candidate literally directly said it by calling them all deplorable. And why the fuck should any states mostly dark stay in the same country that is completely run by elitist fags like that? They wouldn't and that's why the EC is what keeps us the United States. If Trump didn't win because the popular vote then there'd have been this issue even as soon as now.

okay so i don't remember all the point values, but let's say texas is worth 3 points, and new york is worth 2. If trump were to win 2 of the 3 votes in texas, and one in new york, then hillary won 1 in texas, and 1 in new york... well, he'd still win there, despite new york being a mostly democratic state that probably voted for hillary. And there's probably more people in new york than texas, based on population density. I literally don't know exactly how it all works, but I know it's a much better system than popular vote alone. If we were to go strictly by popular vote, we might as well have only one party, and never have an election, cuz the same states are gonna decide the winner every time just based on population alone, most of them thinking alike.

Our EC system is one where the winner takes all, sans unusual circumstances where you have a faithless elector (but this rarely happens and it has never altered the outcome of an election. So there is no winning two out of three votes there and one out of two votes there. It is all or nothing. You win the state, you get the votes.
>>
>>751603299
it counts, just not in the way you think. the EC is tied in with popular vote, in a way. When you go vote, the votes are tallied up for your county. If more people in your county go for trump over hillary, then the county itself submits one vote for trump to the state. Then the state tallies shit up further down the line to see which way its representative in the EC is gonna distribute the votes for their region. All boiled down though, your vote does count, just not as a deciding factor in a popular vote type election. You're more like a grain of sand stuffed in a bag sitting on a scale.

Yeah the EC isn't perfect but it's WAY better than the popular vote. I am completely for proposing a valid alternative to the EC but it better not be the popular vote.

In addition to the same areas deciding the elections, the reality is that the vast majority of people are also lifelong committed to the same party and never switch their political views. That means every city would be guaranteed democrat. Feeling powerless, why should most states that are like 70% republican stand for being powerless? THey wouldn't and they would push to cede from the country.

Not only that, but a political party could make promises which are AMAZING for people living in urban areas and complete horseshit for people outside of cities. It could be where people in cities have 100% approval of the candidate and people outside of cities have 0% approval and would HATE that guy with a passion. But oh well 95% of the surface area of the country is stuck with a guy they HATE and who doesn't give a single shit about them because he knows he can win with just the cities.

well, like i said, i don't know exactly how the system works. I think it's probably some simple ass math system like population divided by area. Lots of people in texas, but texas is also huge in size... Not quite as many people in rhode island, but it's also smaller, so the density might be more. So doing some fucky math and shit they somehow figure it out that this area is worth this many points, that area is worth that many points, and in the end, it ends up distributing the voting power evenly among all the states instead of just a select few.
>>
>>751603955
>Yeah the EC isn't perfect but it's WAY better than the popular vote.

The electoral college is essentially the popular vote counted by state instead of nationally, because electors vote in line with the majority of the population literally 99% of the time. All you're doing with the E.C. is giving some people more influence with their vote than others.

Because we all believe we can get our chance to be in power. If we couldn't then no one would tolerate the others that they hate. If a republican won 10 elections in a row for 40 years then cities would be PISSED and vice versa. The hope that your side can win is why we stay united.

SJWs have convinced themselves that they are moral crusaders purely on the side of righteousness and anyone who disagrees with them are evil. That couldn't be further from the truth. The vast majority of people on the right have basic respect for blacks, gays, etc. However we also think we're all equal already and things like affirmative action and wage gap and microaggressions are complete bullshit. And yet anyone who argues against SJWs even on clear bullshit is labeled racist, sexist, homophobic. Hell just saying "It's okay to be white" is exposing SJWs because they think it's not even okay to be white? That's not human rights for white people. SJWs only care about human rights of people they deemed to be the victim of the day and they decide who are victims purely by their gender or sex and not by the life they lived. Guess who the real racists and sexists are? It's the SJWs.

And SJWs are completely blinded by the far right which is arguably 1% of all people on the right. They think the far right represents all of us which couldn't be further from the truth.

The electoral college is pretty simple. You know there are 100 Senators (2/state) and 435 Representatives (distributed to states according to population)? Each state gets as many electors as they have House + Senate seats (plus DC gets 3, because it's special). So Wyoming and DC have 3, Texas has 38, and Cali has 55.

States vote, and the person who wins the state gets ALL the state's electors. So Hillary got all 55 Cali electors, and Trump got 0. The candidate with 270 electors.

It's a little more complex than that -- for instance electors are people and can technically vote however they feel (it's never been significant factor) and 2 states don't use the winner takes all method -- but the above is decent summary of the big picture.

>If the teachers were paid by merit they would be professionals instead of victims crushed under a union.

This disproportionately benefits teachers who work in nice school districts and disadvantages those who don't. Like if I work at the Salk School of Science in NYC, I'm going to get paid more than an educator who works at Public School 157. It has very little to do with whether or not I'm better at teacher and everything to do with the kinds of students who attend each school. Salk literally represents the top students in the city.

And justice involves literal theft if the tall guy doesn't want to give up his box and the government forces him to? Equality means everyone can have one box and if people are decent then they will offer a box. But you can't force someone to give up what they EARNED fairly just because someone else has some other natural disadvantage.
