ITT: We calmly discuss the merits and detriments of President Donald Trump. When you people devolve into simply name calling, you only appear as autists so let's try to have a civil discussion.
>>
I wasn't really happy with either choice during the election so I didn't vote (that and I couldn't register for a mail-in ballot on time).

I decided to just wait and see what he was capable of. So far I'm not impressed but he has the remaining three years to sort that out and impress. I don't necessarily think he is a horrible person, but I don't quite think of him as a good leader either. It also feels like he hasn't delivered on his campaign promises and has just become "like every other politician" who speaks and doesn't act; the exact opposite of his platform.
>>
While normally I would be in support of tax cuts, I feel as though this is the wrong time to do it. With unemployment so low. Trump and congress should actually raise taxes to curb inflation
>>
I feel he as a president has disconnected the people of this Country from its system, and used social media not as a tool of helping, but as almost a scoreboard. He has, however, shown most people that it doesnt take that much to be president, and poked a big hole in the current voting system, the electoral college
>>
>>750742678
I disagree with the electoral college bit. While it appears to be broken when a candidate can win the popular vote but still lose the election, but without it the majority of the country would not have a say in the presidential election. Only the big cities would matter and the issues they face are not necessarily comparable to other parts of the country. With the EC, states with low populations have much more of a voice than they would have otherwise

geography shouldnt matter more than people

one persons vote should not count more than someone elses because of where they live, but thats exactly how our system works

1.Trump doesn't know what he's doing.
2. The Republicans are fragmented.
3. Trump's policies can't even get off the ground.

We are seeing a true failure just one year into office.
>>
>>750742100
personally my most serious concerns about him first arouse in the presidential debate, when he felt the need to defend his penis size on national television after ted cruz made a metaphor involving his hands in an attempt to illustrate the reality of the POTUS position versus the immense promises donald made.

all politics, religion etc aside, i think it's very hard to argue that he is not deeply insecure.

btw fun fact: he brags about getting 4-5 hours of sleep a night. that is simply not sufficient sleep for anyone, and he exhibits all the symptoms of sleep deprivation.

But it should matter. Without the EC, NYC, Miami, LA, Houston etc. would decide the election every time so the EC is a good compromise to 90% of the country that is not a city. States with much higher populations still get much more influence but the proportion of influence small states get is much higher than it would be. That's why the EC was created. Geography mattered a lot to the founding fathers, which is why senators were originally indirectly elected. They recognized that what was best for the most populated areas was not necessarily best for the state as a whole

This is not a president, it is a profound humiliation.
With luck, this fool will precipitate a new Constitutional Congress. Basically the thesis Jerry Farber had in The Student as Nigger, the section where he was supposedly smoking dope with then-Governor Reagan and St Ronnie admitted that his purpose was to galvanize a revolution. It was a calming fantasy back then, sadly never brought to fruition.

The system is set up to avoid the pitfalls of a direct democracy which turns into mob rule. The electoral college is a system that represents western culture and it's focus on individual freedoms that are guaranteed no matter the majority consensus.
>>
>>750743351
the fact that you don't even know the history of your most serious concern is...concerning. It was Marco Rubio that said at a campaign stop that Donald Trump had small hands and that "you know what that means". Soon after was the debate and Trump fired back. He said that it was people like Rubio that were the real crass ones. He said that his hands were normal size and that there were no problems with his dick either. So you should re watch that debate.

Also Trump has always slept very little. But he also has never had a cup of coffee or a beer. He's straight edge as fuck.
>>
>>750743558
The popular vote is the only fair way to do it. And progressives live in rural areas. The Electoral College basically negates their vote against the winner. This is not a fair system.

You're blowing this "rural fag gets more of a vote than me" mentality out of proportion. Look at California, the most populated state, with its 55 electoral votes to montanas 3. They still hardly have a say but they still deserve a little influence because they are part of the union. Without the EC they wouldn't mean shit and the issues important to them would never get addressed

Not at all. It worked as it should. The entire US was represented proportionately and not just the large population centers. If you were a politician and we just did the majority vote, all you would have to do is cater to the major cities and screw over everyone else. This is just another set of checks and balances.

What we really should talk about is why US citizens from US territories have no vote in these elections.

The electorate college has representatives based on actual population for each state taken by census. So, a candidate can win the popular vote, but still must win the states based on population to win the election. So whenever anyone says, "But they won the popular vote." That does not mean anything because we all know how the lection process works. There would be a lot more voting in solid color states than what we see if this was not the case.

This is why we need more parties in control. The 2016 election was a disastor with two equally awful candidates. George Washington warned in his farewell address that political parties would ruin the country which they are in the process of doing so. One side is moving towards communism while the other is moving towards fascism. IMO Bernie and Kasich, two individuals disgusted with their parties, should break and form their own parties. With no majority in congress compromise would be forced and then maybe everyone wouldn't hate each other so much

He's a pathological liar who has no real concept of policy, diplomacy, or even a general idea of what he wants for the country.

He has monetized the Presidency in a way never before seen: the office of the President is now just a vehicle for making his family more wealthy.

It's not that he's a white-supremacist. He simply doesn't care. If pandering to the 14-88 crowd gets him more votes, then that's cool with him.

When raced with resistance, he will bluff.
When the bluff fails, he will lie, no matter how obvious the lie is.
When caught in the lie, he will attack. Every time.

Personally, I wouldn't trust someone with such obvious character flaws to be a supermarket cashier.

and nobody in the places where people actually live wants to be ruled by your religious fundamentalism, racism, and homophobia.

if you actually believed in federalism, north carolina wouldn't have prevented charlotte from passing their expansion of bathroom usage for trans people. same with houston's policy and texas. but everytime you guys get in power it's heartbeat bills on abortion and laws that are just fucking shitty to lgbt people. and then the gop pushes tax cuts for the wealthy - who you guys claim to hate - and you're just too fucking stupid to see it.

listen, your shitty life in the country sucks. i get it. but stop being a whiney little bitch about it and move somewhere where there are jobs and culture - like a city.

God damnit stop eating the fucking paint chips.

It's not about a 1:1 balance.

It takes the polling from the country as a whole.

You can crowd 10 million people in an area, sit one political party there (Democrats) push policies and propaganda to the point where everyone votes the same, and swing an entire election based of of a few cities.

News flash, cock stain: this is a nearly 400 million person strong country. Not all of them live in LA, NYC, Miami, or Seattle.

You cannot base a NATIONAL election off of small pockets here and there.

Our constitution has remained intact because the dudes who wrote it actually knew what the fuck they were doing. It's why we had a successful revolution that spanned into a country 250 years after the fact.

It blows my mind how little fucking history most Americans know.

It will not ever change. Again, get the fuck over it.

I have to agree with fucking perverts looking like gorillas in tank tops pretending to be women sharing the same bathroom space as my daughter? Nope.

Progressive thought used to have a purpose. Woman's suffrage, civil rights, etc. Those are good progressive ideals. The shit being tossed out now has nothing to do with human rights, I areas its pandering to the lowest common denominator in order to garner votes.

Who said I or those that think like me want taxes pushed on the wealthy? What's that serve? Discourages many from trying to achieve wealth, which pushes this CAPITALIST country forward.

The problem is, fundamentally, that the Democratic party has raised a generation(s?) of people accustomed to blaming others, taking no responsibility for their own actions, and aschew hard work for "their fair share".

I'm not rich, I grew up poor as fuck, but I've worked my ass off to get what I have, and I did it without help. If that's this "white privilege" shit that the left is pushing now, the it further illustrates how out of touch with actual fucking reality they and those who stupidly vote for them are.

Also, morals are a good thing to have. You don't have to go to church or believe in God to have them. You really just need common sense.

Killing babies is bad. Pretending your friend is one of 800 genders is bad.

If you don't know why, well...youre beyond the help that words on 4Chan could ever provide.

Obama dishonored his Nobel prize every twenty fucking minutes of his eight fucking years. That's not something that can be chalked up to "oops, my generals made me do it again!".
He is also deeply connected to the Chicago machine. He received one of their fixers in the Oval Office more than three hundred times. The real difference between Barry and Donny is that one is slick and the other is a boor. Also Barry will get to keep all his booty and not wind up in jail.

Hil was a huge TPP supporter. She only switched sides because she saw the way that public opinion was blowing. Had she been elected, she'd have had another change of heart and TPP would be here to stay.
This "wave of prosperity" only began during Obama's twilight, because the business sector knew that he was on his way out and they began to start investing in growth again, now that they didn't have to worry about him regulating them to death.
As for Hil and the DNC collusion. I guess the fact that a former head of the DNC that witnessed this and who is now speaking about it isn't good enough for you? Then you must believe that the Trump/Russia allegations are BS, because there is no evidence of those either.

I think becoming president was a worst possible scenario for Trump and that he was blind sided by it as much as everyone else was.
His plan was to let Clinton win the election and to use the furver of his bases outrage at her win to make a quick buck.
Bare in mind he'd planned to work with Sheldon Aidalson to make a "fox news" style media organization for himself, but all of that went up in smoke when he became president.
To make matters worse for him, being president puts you under an huge amount of scrutiny and given his past failings as a business man there is no way he hasn't been doing something shady to maintain his wealth and its only a matter of time till that gets dragged out. Regardless as to whether or not he actively colluded with Russia, it is a known fact he has had dealing with them. Even if its indirectly the outlook on such things are ground for people like Mueller to go after him.
The saddest part is Trump could have avoided all of this trouble if he had simply divested his wealth. Then even if Mueller found anything he would have at least been able to say "Yeah I had dealings like that in the past, but now I am president."
TLDR Trump is in a tough spot. He was prepared to have that power, but not the restrictions and scrutiny that comes with it.

“I had promised Bernie [Sanders] when I took the position of interim chair of the DNC that I would get to the bottom of whether or not Hillary's team had rigged the party process in her favor so that only she could win the nomination,” Brazile writes, setting the scene for a September 2016 phone call with Sanders. “From the moment I walked in the door of the DNC a month earlier I had my suspicions, based on the leaked emails. But who knew if some emails might have been forged? I needed to have solid proof and so did Bernie.”

Brazile summarizes some of her conclusions in the ensuing paragraph. She credits Clinton for resolving the DNC's debt but asserts that Clinton “expected to wield control of its operation” in return.

Then Brazile writes this: “By September 7, the day I was making this call to Bernie, I had found my proof and what I had found broke my heart.”

Sanders lost because he didn't have what it took.

Trump colluded with Russia for a good reason but in a bad way. If we stop suffocating Russia with embargoes and shit like that oil prices will drop in the US again making our economy just a bit more stable. Fun fact, the US runs on oil, and Russia is willing to trade if we stop destroying their economy even more than it already is.

>Inb4 Ukraine
I know. If we start this alliance shit again it'll pull us into another world war. It was immoral and awful but embargoes we're the wrong way to handle it.

the popular vote isn't perfect either, but it's less unfair than allowing person x to have a vote worth 1.00, and person y to count for 1.1

the solution to problems you allude to, related to tyranny of the majority, are better addressed through other methods.

* ring ring * let me just take that call from my new welfare phone obama gave me.

we will pull out of the middle east * pulls some troops out but not all as promised * we need to put more troops in to get rid of ISIS.

* sells guns to saudi's * they are just going to use them for defence * massacre of multiple civilian population's happen * didn't expect that from the religion of peace.

Obama: * see's servalance drones * can we add guns to them and wildly bomb everyone that's brown? general: we could but that would be highly ineffective and lead to many war crimes so I would not advise such. Obama:* signs action to make more drones have guns *

>>
>>750750197
dude you're a fucking moron

electoral votes / population = vote weight per person, and it's true that rural states have a higher weight per vote.

THAT is how the electoral college works, and yes it absolutely is one persons vote being worth more

whether you agree with the reasoning behind that is a totally different issue.

The electoral college helps keep the people free from the tyranny of the majority at a federal level.
The federal government has grabbed too much power, which is a bad thing. But if you want to pass your laws, pass them locally.
I think a lot of city leftists minds would change if they went out and visited their states, and saw who all their legislation would be effecting.
What's good for the city isn't good for the country, and vice versa. Legislate accordingly. Decentralized government is the solution.
>>
>>750750538
>sanders didn't get enough of the vote because of anti-competitive actions taken by the DNC

I'm all for small government because the government sucks at most everything and the less say they have in our lives the better.

Ever read 1984? That's what happens when government has total control.

Keep thinking Conservaties (most) care who is diddling who.

I have plenty of gay friends. They're awesome as fuck. Even had one as my best man when I got married. What they know, that you apparently don't, is that it isn't cool to push their opinions on others, just like I don't push mine on them.

Regarding healthcare and education:

You're proof the government being involved in education was a mistake and our healthcare system is a joke. Obama care is an abomination. That's why Canadians with their SOCIALISED medicine still come to this country for medical procedures, and our healthcare system sucks even before Obama care.
>>

That's implying that the people that put him in weren't ALL stupid. He took an entire party of people hostage, really. Even I fell for some of the shit he said.

Is he a bad president? Nah. Is he a liar? Yes. Will he ruin the country? Nah. Will anything he wants to do get passed? Hell no. That's mostly why I liked him, because I didn't like Hillary at all and Trump is like a filler president. 3 more years, people. Just wait 3 more years. Nothing will happen.
