Ask someone who "quit" the military anything, also received an honorable after 4 years.
And I mean I literally told the First Sergeant and Commander "I quit" was supposed to do 6 years ended up doing 4.
Cool! The volunteer force works.
What branch? I assume Army or Marines since life in both sucks.
How did they cut the paperwork?
Do you regret it?
>>713534148
I had a change of heart. It was the Air Force. It was easy for the most part. However the leadership at my last base kept fucking me. It was a pain the ass to get out, I kept trying to get out on the lowest level possible for a couple months. Which wasn't working. So one day just went in there told them. Gave them my ID card and left. Waited they came to me and wanted to talk. They we're super nice but also threatening me with jail at the same time. Ended up making a deal, that got me out in 2 weeks, took an article 15. And I was gone fast. Before they found me, I harassed an OSI agent and made him read my rights over a simple question that had nothing to do with me. He was a Major and did not like an E-4 overpowering him...
They got me out so fast they didn't even both taking my rank or serving me a bad discharge.
Slick and well done. The Air Force isn't for everyone.
>>713536455
Yeah, very political. I actually really liked it.. But thought about it one day. Was this something I wanted to do for many years to come.
And realized I had to get out. Started doing music and haven't looked back since.. This was almost 4 years ago.
>>713533370
You couldn't hack it, so you begged to get out. You were given a general discharge under honorable conditions. Meaning of you stay out of trouble, after 4 years that general discharge turns to an honorable discharge.
>>713536914
This. OP is weak as fuck.
Air Force here, glad to here that you got out when it wasn't good for you. Unfortunately, a lot of people turn to suicide as a way out because it is often perceived that getting out is impossible.

>>713537429
I'm not familiar with Air Force regs on this, but I know in the Army we have guys just fail two PT tests consecutively and can get out on grounds of "failure to adapt."
Had an E5 in my unit who accidentally ND'd his .45 while cleaning it in on post housing. Because he had kids at the house he technically endangered them and they tried to get him with a dishonorable. Forged two failed PT test and got to keep his benefits and all. Just lost rank.
>>713537690
Yeah, they won't let you out. It was near impossible to get out. You basically have to stop following orders without getting put in jail.

After ten years I thought I wanted to get out, so I started failing my PT tests...after a year they finally started the discharge paperwork. Got honorable, but now its been two years and I miss the fuck out of it...
It's all perception to me if I didn't get out, I would be quiting on myself. Because that was not what I wanted to do anymore. Who the fuck cares about the contract its an illusion made by this corrupt government if you serve right now, you are a fucking pawn in their game.

He signed a contract, took an oath, made a commitment. If you care at all about honor, then you see your commitment through to the end. This is not some part time fast food job, but a profession and a life style.
I don't expect you to care, hell, I don't even expect you to understand. But perhaps, maybe, just fucking maybe I've learned a thing or two in my 15 years in the Army during 3 deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan. One of the worst types of people to have on your team is a quitter, they will fail you, every time when you need them most. You can probably figure out for yourself why a quitter is a detrimental thing in a war zone.
You're getting more of a reply than you deserve, but yeah, feel free to drop another sick fraternity burn.

CPL or SPC?
When you get tricked into the 6 year they don't tell you what it's actually like. Junior enlisted receive no respect from the nco's, that's why I rushed to e5. Went in as a PV2, made PFC in 9 months and SPC in another 12, brownnosed for another 9 and made SGT. I would always hound the platoon sergeant about self improvement bullshit. He was a selfish asswipe who only cared about himself and making himself look good. I kissed ass, sgt's were the laziest motherfuckers around, making the spc's do the dirty work, and the few cpl's do all of the nco's leadership bullshit.

Guys who served in the first Gulf War said there was a big drawdown afterward- it was one of the last big conventional deployments and after it was done they simply didn't need all those people anymore. You had people who had served with no problems for 10 or even 15 years who just got separated from service with very little notice.
OP is likely a shitbag and cancer on his unit, which was overstrength and maybe even targeted for cuts. They were glad to be rid of him I'm sure. But I do not believe they just granted him an Honorable like he says. More likely a General. Also, I think it's bullshit that it would just automatically turn from General to Fully Honorable in a set number of years after discharge. Again, I don't believe that. Although I have no basis for it. It was just a commonly repeated soldier myth that I thought was probably horseshit. I mean, how would all these E3s telling me this crap know? Ground Radar maintenance. Pretty small field with small shops and easy work days if you happen to get the most recent airfield surveillance radar. Because of our size, we are getting mashed together with airfield systems next year to become Radar and Airfield Weapons Systems.
I remember the CCT guys, they went to school on the same base as me. I don't know too much about them, just that they're fit as fuck. Always running around with goddamned 40 pound rocks and logs.
There's lots of good benefits to joining, I would recommend it. Just keep your head up, your nose clean, and keep a goal in mind. If you want to do 4 and leave, do 4 and leave. If you want the full 20 and retire, be ready to put in some work.
There are shit ncos and commanders just like there are shit bosses in the civilian world. I got lucky to have pretty great bosses in most of my contract . I'd consider staying in, but I hate deploying and being away from my wife and daughter for so long. Besides, I want to be an engineer, not some radar guy. Gonna take my degree and go.
>>713546807
I was halfway through my college degree when I joined, married and with child. Honestly, what I did was the right choice for me. If you like the path you yook, good on you buddy. But student loan debt was fucking me and I had a daughter to take care of.
>>713548758
Ok, ill explain. I had already made a deal with them, to get out with article 15. They said it would take like up to a month or so. I still wasnt happy with those results so I was finding anyway to make the process speed up. I figured out that they didn't like when I disobeyed orders. Walking away from shirt when hes talking to me. etc.
But an OSI agent questioned me over something someone else had did.
There was a Captain who was selling a energy drink/health product. Anyway lowkey they thought she was using favoritism towards people who purchased from her. The Group commander issused an investagtion. No one knew this at the time. They questioned me, at the time didn't know because I purchased some drink mixes from her. He agent started asking me questions about it. Seeing this as an opportunity to escalate things more. I just was was uncooperative. I told him I wanted a lawyer and refused to talk anymore until done so. He got real upset when I did that. He ordered me to go at attention. I refused, sitting there chewing my gum. He then orders me to spit the gum out still refusing. He then tells me to wait at attention while he gets my commander. I just bailed and went to mental health.
Then once I left mental health, they are waiting outside. I worked at the clinic. so it was the same building. I went to my commanders office still not standing at attention, commander ordered my to apologize to the major (OSI agent) still didn't. Basically the commander probably explained him who I was. And that was it. Then the commander told me, don't worry we will have you gone in two weeks. Just promise you don't do anything else. If we get you out this fast. I agreed.
>>713549719
To people who may not understand this. The commander think of him like a big boss somewhere. Doesn't like explaining these situations to his boss. Makes him look like shit. And can fuck up their promotions and chances for higher positions.
