One data point isn't a trend. It is pretty rare for programmers to fly solo without any real interaction between business people or other developers.
I deal with the business people directly on my job. The company has both people who will hold up validation and testing to get their personal way at the expense of others (company seniors are always fun to handle), and people who just want the software to help them get their work done. Watching them battle each other during meetings can be taxing when being a programmer automatically makes you referee, with management holding rights to screw me over for no reason.
