LOTS changed, not the least of which is the deletion of the frame mounted decocker. It shares almost as much in common with a P5/P38 than a P88. The name is a misnomer too; it's more a semi-compact like the P99.
It was the last of an era. When the P99 was developed to compete with Glock, it was kind of a death knell for semi-custom metal-framed handguns.
Some companies are trying to bring the idea back, such as Wilson's custom Berettas, but once the masses got a taste of $500 wundernines, it was over. Niche markets are hard to sustain.

And the point of stop-and-frisk is that the police in USA have an inherent ability to search a person they have stopped for suspicious activity to make sure they are not armed.
