hey guys, just a quick question.
my computer recently got a virus when i was downloading some gaming torrents. wasn't too careful and downloaded the wrong thing, yadda yadda i know i'm a fuckin idiot. i've scanned my computer with every antivirus in the book and it still keeps finding more files.
i'm bringing in my computer to one of my tech friends to get rid of whatever the shit 'slim cleaner plus' is. thing is... i have loli porn and fanfiction on my computer. and some stories about characters killing some of my hated classmates. i'm an edgy 18 year old fuck, can you blame me?
but anyways, should i delete this stuff before i bring it in? i've worked pretty hard on some of the pieces, one particular fanfic being around 80 pages long in word. i don't want my friend finding it, of course. but do tech guys really snoop often? should i just delete the shit?

What does the virus do to your computer? Does it prevent you from opening certain programs?

Why not just pay for an antivirus

Better yet why not just invest in a stateful firewall with a gatway antivirus filter.

ZyXel starts at 150 usd

What the virus is doing is writing multiple files in different places, each of which is capable of re-writing itself. Some are on timers, some go off on reboots, some go off when you load a browser, and so on. This means you have to get them *all* at the same time or they'll just re-write themselves each time and you're back at square one. You can't miss even a single piece.

You're going to have to use seven or eight different pieces of software to make sure you got all of it. And unfortunately, some of the software you have to use has the potential to permanently screw up your Windoze install if you delete the wrong thing, so read the dox *carefully*.

Here's what you'll need. All of this is free:

+ Panda Cloud Cleaner
+ Malwarebytes Antimalware
+ HijackThis!
+ ComboFix
+ RKill
+ RogueKiller
+ ADWCleaner
+ Junkware Removal Tool (JRT)

Each of these do different things and find different parts of the virus. You'll have to do multiple passes with each of them, because the virus will be busy rebuilding itself as you run each of them. Be particularly careful with ComboFix, since it's a powerful tool but has the potential to seriously fuck up your system. (Make sure you make a backup of your browser preferences and plugins, for example.)

You should also go through your msconfig and manually uncheck files with random-looking names from your startup files.

Good luck.

Jesus tapdancing Christ, are you seriously suggesting that he runs 7 fucking antivirus programs?

Ffs. Op, boot in safe mode, kill any foreign processes in task manager, then run rkill. From there you should be able to run an antivirus

Yo let me see some of that loli bro.
And any good friend should be chill with what you jack off too tbh, you sure you aren't just getting some company to fix it for you?

If you have a recent windows backup, just go back to a previous version from before you installed it.

OP is not computer-savvy. He's not going to know how to scan his registry startup keys or even find his hosts file, much less examine it for malicious entries. Each of those programs finds different files and has different capablities. They overlap some, but each does something unique the others don't. Together, they should fix just about anything without needing to have much technical know-how.

That won't help if he's been rootkitted.

If he's been rootkitted only a fresh OS install will be guaranteed to save him. I guess that method in the dox will do that job too. And if THAT doesn't work and the hacker has somehow figured out your computer password to fuck with some low-level stuff, load up Darik's Boot and Nuke (Goes by a different name now) and do 3 passes. This will save you from the FBI too if you know they are coming.
