Should the government have the right to tax?
>>
>>714379235
should you have the right to:
>good roads
>social programs
>garbage collection services
>safe neighbourhoods
>a job where laws protect you from being enslaved
>etc

if yes then yes, they do have the right to tax
>to pay for this

INB4 libtards thinking money comes from nowhere
>>
>>714379753
its the conservitards that hate taxes
>>
>>714379753
And inb4 conservatives thinking they live in a vacuum where it's them and their money and no one else exists

"Self-sufficient" is a misnomer we all need social services and roads and subsidized healthcare
>>
>>714379753
rights don't exist, fgt
>>
>>714379235
No taxation without representation.
But yes there should be taxes. I like roads and streetlights and fire hydrants and shit.
>>
>>714379893
yes they do, but the liberals think that they can have all the god damn programs and services they want and not have to figure out where all the money comes from.

its always the liberals calling for tax breaks for everyone under the sun as well

conservitards love taxes just as much as libtards do.. as long as it funds what they want.

its libertarians that hate taxes.
>>
>>714380150

Roads and Education account for about 5% of total spending
>>
>>714379977
yes and no. Im a conservative and I still do believe that taxes are necessary but should only be collected and used for the bare minimum services to keep a nation going (roads, emergency services, medical and support for the ACTUALLY disabled to name just a few.

but to a great extent self sufficiency should be preached way more. no more of this what can the government do for me shit. get to a what can I do for me mindset

I've tried to figure out what OP's image is, then I looked at the upper right corner and realized it's an eye. Creepy as fuck, especially from an herbivore.
On topic, yes, the US government should have the right to tax. Giving representatives power doesn't just mean voting them into office; it's giving them responsibilities no corporation wants to handle. Those responsibilities collectively require a preposterous amount of money, and the economic returns on most projects stretch deep into the future. Neither of these are favorable for private corporations, but they are what make a constitutional republic like ours relevant.
>>
>>714380972

the only reasons libertarians can have such stupid expectations of human nature is because they live in civilized societies.

canada fag here. its cheap but not the greatest. that being said when my wife was in the hospital for 3 days I didnt have to worry even once about bills or weather my insurance was gonna "drop coverage".

its a misunderstanding that its free though. we all pay into it through either a tax on income or a premium system. and because we all pay into it and the government regulates the prices we all end up paying less.
>>
>>714381090
it's fine for emergencies and essential treatment. if you want anything elective, it'll be a few months if you can't afford to pay out of pocket. the rich ones just go into the US for elective stuff

But you should tell me more about the great american system of healthcare, which as i understand it primarily works on the principle of "Your money or your life", or in some cases "Your money AND your life"

healthcare is rationed no matter where you are. americans just ration it by the system of "can you afford not to die?"

Saudi Arabia doesn't tax its citizens, everything is paid for by oil money.

It's an utter shitshow. Because the government isn't beholden to taxpayers, there is no accountability. likewise regular citizens don't feel invested in anything the country does, because it goes on with or without them.

they're going to be doubly fucked when the oil runs out or becomes so cheaply priced due to renewables expanding.

>>714381611
Refer to >>714381176
On that, what I meant by those things "making the constitutional republic relevant" is that it ultimately binds the power of the government to the will of the people. The people, the American citizens, ask for those ridiculously expensive projects with equally ridiculous utilization time frames to be done.

...just because the government runs social security doesn't mean it's theirs. It's our money. We put it into social security for one reason. The government should only be using for that reason. Ideas like this have been proven not to work. In it is what gets rid of the middle class. Private roads are a good example. Imagine your neighborhood pool together and you get screwed. If you are in a lower social level there is a good chance the company will be able to afford to stretch out the trail time until you guys run out of money.
Next time you could go to the other guys right? Well they were all bought out by the largest one because they wanted a monopoly and the socialist anti-monopoly law was struck down for being socialist.

Imagine every business in the world trying to screw you. That is life. The little guy doesn't win off of being right, no one works for free.

that is an interesting difference. in the US I see health care plans that are about 275$. There have been rate hikes going to 400$ a month for some of my friends, with bullshit rules like this plan isn't available if you're under 30, or companies just pulling the cheaper plans out and only selling more expensive ones (bait and switch) whether you see a doctor or not all year, and even if you go in then you still have to pay a deductible 500-2,000 for the visit.

If you didn't get healthcare you had to pay a fine that increased every year, starting at a few hundred going to a few thousand depending on your income, increasing every year to make you buy it. You would still have to deal with hospitable bills as well if you had any.

If i'm paying a quarter of my rent each month for nothing and still have to pay a deductible for a visit wtf am i getting? just paying for poor illegals, diabetics and blacks, there is literally no reward for being fit or healthy.

This is my real problem. I hate perpetuating the idea that if you live carefully, too bad no advantage. Even if you want to risk and have no coverage you still pay that penalty.

Democrats hate people being responsible for themselves, and healthcare is priced so high because insurance companies pay it.

Depends. Which government? The idealistic government or the actual, real world government?

Ideally, yes. Same goes for regulation. In theory.

In practice, the government has failed us. All of us. The global establishment in which we are all a part of taxes us, uses tax dollars to fund terror groups and dictatorships, while simultaneously using the unrest caused by these terror groups and dictatorships to further support the military industrial complex. This cycle continues while education programs suffer.

TL;DR - In theory yes, in practice, fuck the government. But I pay taxes anyways because fuck going to jail

I know right? The fucking Government takes my fucking hard earned money and spends it on paving roads for retarded rednecks to drive their trucks to the liquor store. I work from home, why should I have to pay for their fucking roads, they should do it themselves! Roads are not a right, if they want them I say they go out there and pave them themselves since rooting through soil like animals is all their alchohol ravaged brains are capable of. And why the fuck am I spending money on a military? I have a revolver if any foreign powers trespasses on my land I'll just fucking shoot them, so why do I need to pay taxes for that? Finally why the fuck is my money going to pay for the education of children I'll never have? If I wanted them smart I'd teach them myself!

Oh wait, I forgot that as a nation our money is pooled and distributed equally for the common good of our country, it's people, and it's future.

In a way you do, the road outside of your house probably costs more a year to maintain than you pay in taxes. That means the money you spend and then some goes to maintaining that road.

functional government is voluntary, if you use something, you exchange for it.

business that relys on using roads should be the only ones paying to maintain them, no one else wears them down as much as these true parasites do, elite moochers want us to pay for for their corporate welfare, the true queens.

parental values (how they stress education to their kids) matter way, way more than money spent on educators/equipment in schools

That's why healthcare needs to be a pool.

Those cameras are meant to deter unsafe drivers from endangering the lives of those around them. It's not societies fault that there are people who care so little about their lives and the lives of those around them that they'd risk everything to shave minutes off their commute.

Every minority youth you see behind the desk of a hotel or behind the wheel of a taxi cab gets up for work every day because they believe it will get them somewhere, because they believe they have a future. There will always be those willing to profit off the hardwork or misfortune of others but as long as men wake up each day with the will to change and ambition burning in their hearts society will grow and prosper.

What is perhaps the greatest American ideal is the idea of the individual, that we are free to explore our own needs, to grow, to designate our lives to the pursuit of that which inspires us. Some will harness the curiosity that makes man great to unravel the mysteries of the natural world, others will turn their gaze upon a society in torment and seek to help it, but first they must understand it. Both pursuits are noble, and both would be directionless without the other. What good does raw knowledge do without a worthy cause to apply it to? And what use are good intentions without the means to see them through?

Stop imagining life as your own story, in which everyone tries to screw you over. Think about the positive side. You most likely still have a full set of teeth, and don't have to literally crack your back 10-12 hours a day for 8 out of 10 months. You have internet to bitch in, any kind of movie-story-book-game available to you, and you whine you have to work for most of your life for that?
Earth is cruel and unforgiving. Everything you have was carved from it by humanity throughout all of it history. If you don't like it - you are still free to go live alone in Africa or Siberia. I doubt anyone is going to look for you and bring you back.
