The managers stay inside, so you don't have to deal with them.
You don't have to deal with many customers except the odd carry out or parking lot meth-head.
It requires no thinking or thought process, so you get time to just think (which was a big plus to me, especially when i was in college).

This is easy to remedy. Simply state on your resume or application that you were self employed during those time gaps. I put down computer repair business which is the truth for my 1 year employment gap.
Showing a display of progress is what employers want to see, they want to hire those with a strong sense of being independent, what better way then to show that rather than sit in your ass expecting a job to be handed to you, you took personal time to be productive and learned a skill.
