Well I don't know who Rocko is, but I know Ren and Stimpy. You're almost right, except for the problem that the cartoons employ violence and disaster as a humor device, not as a crutch to make the cartoonist feel better (or the audience). The audience isn't amused because something bad happens to Ren, they're amused either because something bad happens to Ren when he was trying to hurt Stimpy or because it's something that's not supposed to happen. But these drawings that accompany this fetish are different. The OP actually made the point that the violence is highly realistic (not abstract) and that the point of it is to make him feel less bad about his own life. Sort of like a rape victim deriving a sense of ease by seeing somebody else get raped or even participating. That one where the pony stomps her baby under the bag sort of is funny in that way, but not really... it's just a bit too final and there's not enough humor to carry it. When Ren swallows a bowl of chilies and his head catches fire, you know he's going to be back to normal again in a few seconds. So there is a difference.
