Fuck you. If I were a parent, I would encourage my kid to move out as soon as possible but would literally just throw him out at 18 regardless of whether or not he's going to do well out there. If you were ready to move out at 18, good for you, but fuck anyone who forces their kids into homeless life. There's a difference between making your kid work for what he wants and just throwing your hands in the air and saying, "Fuck it, you're on your own, kid."

Well it certainly wasn't a party, but it's a lot better than you'd think. I was lucky enough to find a homeless shelter that wasn't full yet. No expenses made it pretty easy to save up and buy a vehicle with a nice roomy interior. By that point they had to cycle me out of the shelter to make way for others, so I started living out of my truck instead. Gym membership for showers and shaves, and some canned food from food banks. Other than that, gas and auto insurance were my only real expenses so I was still able to save enough money to get back onto my feet. All in all, it only lasted about 9 months.

Yes houses are more expensive, I don't dispute that. Furnishing a livable house though is far, far cheaper, Fridges cost a weeks wage, not a months, TV's cost a weeks wage, not 2-3 months, sofas cost 2 weeks wages not months and the entry price into housing is far lower, yes the loan is larger but the rest of your necessities are far cheaper.

Yeah, I can furnish my house with a bunch of shit from Wal Mart... It's gonna last three years. My parents have furniture that they've had since THEIR parents owned it.
Saying that houses are "more expensive" is seriously minimizing the price difference. Being able to walk into a GM factory, dick in one hand, high school diploma in the other, and getting enough money to pay for a house within a few years is something that the current generation can't even FATHOM.

When I was young I was stupid. Brash. Had brass balls. I was smart and showed every sign of promise. There was one thing my teenage mind could not comprehend at the time, mostly because I had never been told the severity of it.
The town I lived in is home to some of the oldest money in America. These guys are old school. Respect is their mantra... if you violate it, they have no other rules.
So, to avoid fucking up in these surroundings (advice I wished I'd had for my teenage years)

I think it's funny how the majority of people posting here are genuinely poor and still rooted for Trump to win presidency to take your tugboats away. That's the true meme here.
Others have huge student loans that the Dems wanted to massively forgive that you'll now have to pay on for 15 years or so.
Truly, let's Make America Great Again lads!

If you're young and you've read my posts you're lucky, if you take them to heart.
Where I grew up, everyone's parent's were almost in their 50s pretty much breeding their teenage kids for Ivy League. My parents were outliers in that respect.
I'm not saying don't enjoy your teen years. I'm just saying you'd be surprised how early the die is cast, how quickly judgements will be formed about you and never change, and the cutthroat hypocrisy that is the upper-middle class-top 1% symbiosis.

Dude, keep doing what you're doing then. Fuck man, I WISH I never knew any rich people. It was pure chance that I grew up in the town I did. I had all that opportunity and I squandered it.
I digress. At this point in your life school/cirriculars/job will be the most important, along with staying out of trouble with the law.
I'm virtually blacklisted man.
Not because of any law trouble, but because rich people that knew about me a LONG time ago don't like me and don't want to see me succeed.

in my early thirties and I have about $250,000 USD spread out between my checking, savings, Roth IRA, 401(k), and my standard brokerage account. I've got too much in the bank, need to get it out and into a proper fund.
Once I sell my home, I should pocket another $30,000. I put that much into the fucking thing, so it's not really a net win but I'm glad to be rid of it.
If my big pharma employer still has a pension in 22 years, I'll be doing all right.

Have you angered any people with over $2million dollars yet? No? You're good dude.
A lot of people will say that hard work and experience gets you places. That's only half true. Hard work and experience gets you noticed. People get you places.
As much as I hate to say it, take a job as an accountant, real estate agent, broker, stocks... Professions that cater to people with much more money than you. I mean I hate that I'm saying it but in today's America the only way up is via handshake.
>>714063455

All those current accounts have a limit on the balance you can get interest on.
So the Santander 123 account you can only get 1.5% on 20K. If I have 25K in that account I still only get interest on the 20K. It's the same with the others.
So no, it isn't stupid.

Not who you linked to, but I would second the idea of a Vanguard ETF. Far less trouble to manage, and historically speaking, you will earn a better rate of return in the long run.
Ofc, the amount will fluctuate up and down, unlike with your bank accounts. But, that shouldn't be a problem as you're still young.
