I named my pet fluffy "Saskatoon" because I'm Canadian and because everyone names their shit rat Blueberry. I just wanted to be different.
Anyway, Saksatoon came into my life not through a pet store or from the local animal shelter. Instead, I found her huddled in the hollow of a tree at the park. She was dirty, shivering and starving.

I'm sure some inarticulate faggot will post that "Consider the following" screencap but the basic idea follows two paths, one is that they're so innocent and helpless but friendly that their horrific torture is a stark contrast. they're carebears dropped into the real world that can't understand the crueltys of nature or that humans would hurt them for fun because they're litterally designed to think humans are kind and loving, thus the subversion of expectations creates humor. the other makes them awful little assholes that can be hurt and abused for catharsis without the reader or the character in story feeling bad about beating up what is basically as small chubby dog that talks because "dey not reel lulz"
While i enjoy fluffy stuff i sometimes feel a shudder that we can so easily imagine not just people happily abusing something helpless and dumb, but all of society just going "Yep its fine because reasons!"

I'll give her credit. She bitched and moaned and complained about every little thing the entire way but she did follow me. I guess some of her bitching was justified because I noticed she was leaving bloody hoof prints on the tile in the front entryway of the house. First thing's first though. I gave her a bath.
Yeah, she bit me and shit all over the tub but I did get her clean and dried off. Then I bound up her hooves with some ointment and gauze. Then I fed her. Nothing fancy; just some spaghetti. Then we cuddled up on the couch together to watch some TV.
Saskatoon seemed to settle in to the domestic life pretty easily which led me to believe she may have been a former pet. Either way, she followed me and I kept my word about being a good owner.

It's inevitable that fall turns to winter. We received a blast of cold arctic air which dropped the temperature rather severely overnight. The next morning, I bundled Saskatoon up and took her out for a walk to see all of the frost covering everything. Well, not really a walk. I had her riding in a wagon with a hot water bottle tucked under her stomach. She was bundled up so much that only her nose and eyes were visible. Still, she enjoyed seeing the sunlight play on the ice crystals and I had fun pulling her around.
When we got back home, Saskatoon took her usual place in the living room next to the heat register while I made my self some hot chocolate. She sure did love when the furnace kicked in and blasted her side with hot air. She also loved the way the air smelled coming out of the ducts. Kind of dusty; like the way her fluff naturally smelled. I guess comfort is found in the little things.

Speaking of the little things, it wasn't long before Saskatoon started asking me about having little ones of her own. At first, I was against the idea. One fluffy was enough for me. Around Christmas time, though, I started to warm up to the idea.
Saskatoon's Christmas present was a stallion; or rather five minutes alone with one. I'd hired the services of some dude off Craigslist who brought his guy over to do the deed. All it cost me was some gas money and some coupons for a local pizza joint.

The first two weeks of Saskatoon's pregnancy seemed to go along just fine. She was happily singing to her unborn children every day as they developed. The first sign of trouble came when I took her to the vet for an exam.
I was in the waiting room when the veterinarian came out of the exam room with a worried look on his face.
"Mr. Andrews?" He greeted me. "I'm afraid it doesn't look good."
"What is it, Doc?" I asked.
"Well, I did an ultrasound on your dam and I'm afraid I have some bad news."

I wrapped my arms around her. "No, dear. No. You're not a bad fluffy at all and it's not your fault. These things just happen sometimes."

With the vet's assistance, Saskatoon successfully miscarried. While her life was safe and physically she was okay, her mental state was now something else entirely.
In the weeks following, I'd often find her cuddled up and clutching anything she could find. She treated whatever object she had like it was a foal. Sometimes, I'd find her crying and then she needed to be held and cuddled.
