There is no evidence for any of the details or specific claims about God and at every step of development of scientific knowledge, previously held religious convictions were shown to be wrong.
Why would God not mention galaxies or atoms in the bible? That's because it was written by scared humans who desperately sought explanations and meaning behind the indifferent things that happen in life. The deaths of loved ones, disease, natural disaster and everything else that can't be explained by the unaided naked human eye become bearable when you make up stories about how a benevolent dude is orchestrating it all.
A plague decimates the infant population? Well, God had a reason for it.
It wasn't until the invention of microscopes, telescopes, spectroscopes, prisms and other tools that extend the human senses, that we were able to make theories that actually fit reality. Examples of which are the theories of evolution, atoms, gravity, pathogens causing disease, tectonic plates and stellar / galactic / planetary formation.
None of those things even remotely resonate with the ancient claims of jews, christians, muslims and hindus. Only buddhism is slightly compatible without its own retarded mysticism because it's so vague and philosophical at its core.

I'm not going to join this discussion, but it really blows my mind that Atheists think their worldview has more explanatory power or makes more sense than Theism.
There are no alternative explanations to God that come even close to explaining the world as we know it, and I'm not using God of the gaps here, things like our moral experience to the beginning of the universe which is backed by science, all point to the existence of a transcendent creator of the universe.
I think most Atheists haven't really thought their worldview through, it seems to be enough for them that they don't see Jesus walking around their neighborhood and therefore God does not exist, it seems silly and dangerous to me that people brush off some of the most important questions they could ever ask just like that.
To me it's just so obvious.. but as one guy once said (I totally forget who): "It's not that Atheists don't believe in God, it's that they don't want to believe in a God".
