Trump wants to end Net Nutrallty,so basically death of freedom of speech on the internet!

Explain How thats a good thing Trump pepole?

I'm really surprised that I haven't even seen one mention of the net neutrality thing on /b/ until now.

his fucking cabinet is full of the worst of the worst in conservative politics and lobbying. net neutrality stands in direct opposition to the wishes of the media and telecommunications giants who wish to push their monopolization of information further. this is something you trump fancucks should really get a grasp on.
>>
>>712659819
Didn't the man himself say he is against net neutrality?

I mean, obviously anything Trump says should be taken about as seriously as your alcoholic uncle when he's visiting for holiday and has consumed every ounce of booze within the house.... but still.

we all know hillary would have been just as bad as trump and worse in other ways. stop trying to pidgeonhole leftists into the hillary hold outs. I did not want her. I would have been just as worried about net neutrality with her in office than trump. but the reality is trump is in office and his cabinet is either in bed with telecom and media giants or essentially being directly paid by those same companies. this is a direct threat to net neutrality.

In-fucking-correct, faggot. All it does is stop ISPs from rightly throttling / charging more, when they have every right to do so.

Internet is not a human right, faggot.

Netflix was eating massive percentages of bandwidth and slowing your ass down. Their ISP throttled them to save your ass, eventually charging them more, and rightly so.

That's like saying McDonald's can't charge a family more for 5 meals than you for your one meal. It is absurd.

Your analogy is shit and so are you. Net neutrality means that traffic is treated equally -- there's no paid "fast lane". Under either model the traffic is still there -- some groups are just charged more for it without it with no good reason. Companies should be investing in their infrastructure, but it's easier to be lazy and just charge people more instead of improve. Why do you think ISPs shit themselves when something faster and more reliable is introduced, like Google Fiber? Other civilized countries with less pathetic companies have better Internet access than we do, and we invented the fucking thing.

>>712663446

They don't do that though, retard. How afraid are you of McDonald's throttling your food?

These are businesses. They aren't like the government, where they can't fail. They compete for your business.

How retarded are you? You are looking at this ass-backwards. Netflix has an ISP. Netflix was raping it in the ass. The ISP responded by throttling their free ride, and then eventually charging them more... because they have other customers who needed bandwidth. Netflix was essentially a welfare queen.

Want one apple? Buy one apple. Want a dozen? Guess what...

The net neutrality people want is to prevent "toll booths" from popping up. Think like your ISP throttling access to Netflix because they have a deal with a competitor. That's not what the FCC is proposing when they talk about net neutrality. Being against their attempt at regulating the Internet is something everyone should be against.

I agree with what your saying, but as a consumer the current deal I'm getting is much better than what it will be if the ISPs get their way. Do you work for an ISP? I'm a student, I work part time to support my living while I study and I very much enjoy being able to torrent as much anime as I want, being able to watch the Drunken Peasants 3 times a week and play Overwatch or GTA Online with my friends each night without having to pay out the ass for it. You're clearly only for the ISPs because you're either working with one of them, or earn too much to care what they charge.

Does anyone here even know what "net neutrality" is? Besides "It sounds nice! I want net freedom and rainbows and unicorns!"?

Net neutrality is spearheaded by Google to gain access to public utility poles, by having the internet DECLARED a utility. That way, they can spread out their fiber network. Not a public utility? GTFO our phone poles. It's as simple as that.

There's other aspects, like making everyone have access to the same bandwidth and speed. Sounds marvelous. It means that Aunt Tilly must be provided with the same horsepower as Netflix servers. Just so she can talk about knitting on fucking Pinterest. As it is now, you need that power, you have to fucking pay for that power. And, rightly so. But, some people think that's not fair, so they want everyone to have it. Great. Watch your internet bill increase by a factor of 10.

Don't get internet from Verizon, Comcast, Time Warner, etc? Got a great deal from some smaller, local provider? Ya like it? Say goodbye to it, because the net neutrality rules will eliminate any and every small ISP. It's in there. Research it.

People are told "net neutrality" is a free and open internet for the world! Yay! That's NOTHING to do with it. If it were, I'd be all in on this. It's about all I mentioned (and more. Dig into it), but it's mostly about Google wanting to get their hands on fucking phone poles.
>>
>>712664785
you might be the dumbest fucking anon in this thread

you do realize removing net neutrality was a portion of what the TPP would inadvertently do/ allowed for and being anti TPP / PRO net neutrality is what almost all of the Chans stand behind
>>
>>712662600
So, ISPs hand data back and forth between each other. In a normal environment the traffic inbound and the traffic outbound from ISPs is roughly neutral. ISPs that service more requests than send out requests should be able to recoup their costs. If TW sends 1000 to comcast and services 900 from comcast, TW just used comcast infrastructure for 100 and should compensate comcast fairly. This is not net neutrality

When something like netflix comes along ISPs neutral traffic can become heavily lopsided. This causes an ISP to incur huge infrastructure costs of another business. Net neutrality allows this cost shifting.

Under net neutrality your Internet bill will keep going up as your data package loses unlimited status. But at least Netflix stays cheap. This is what happens when content providers offload their costs onto ISPs.

Like every other law proposed recently doublespeak is real. Neutrality is actually forced cost shifting.

>Why would the consumer need to pay the ISP more to use a service that has nothing to do with them? are you a socialist?
Has nothing to do with socialism. This is the lynchpin you're using to make this unanswerable. The consumer can change ISPs, and if not they can fucking choose not to pay, like going down the street to get a burger, if McDonalds charges too much, get off your own ass and make a fucking burger yourself.

>The companies that provide the service pays for the bandwidth as a cost of doing business this wont go away if they remove net neutrality it will just add arbitrary cost to the consumer for absolutely nothing.
The cost is redistributed to the one who's buying the service that makes it so expensive. "For nothing."

The service netflix pays for bandwidth does not provide door to door service. The data travels through multiple ISPs. Net neutrality laws prevent these ISPs from billing each other.

Does this add anything to your arguement?

This will have no effect whatsoever on his approval ratings or his chance for reelection. People who voted for Trump didn't do so because they liked his policies and every election 99% of people who vote Republican know they're technically voting against their own interests. People voted for Trump as a "fuck you" to the establishment and they'll do so again in 4 years regardless of whether he does a good job or not.

Again, actually READ the proposed legislation. The internet you have now (assuming you're uncapped) will be the premium tier. The price will skyrocket.

You'll be offered lower tiers with less speed, less bandwidth, etc. This is all in there.
>>
>>712661231

Trump didn't win a huge victory though. 306 electoral college votes... Obama crushed that in 2008 and 2012.

In fact the only reason trump won... is because democrats didn't show up.

I wish you guys were intellectually honest.
>>
Net Neutrality is a joke. The internet isn't some magical bastion of free speech that you have some inalienable right to. It is technology and infrastructure. It is expensive. In a free market, service providers SHOULD be allowed to manage speeds and costs related to service. If you don't like it, change providers. Believe me, if a company realizes that people are begging to drop another one for throttling/limiting access... they will jump on it.

You can't support capitalism and liberty and support NN too. The system will keep itself in balance. It has nothing to do with your free speech. You still have it. Nobody guaranteed you would be provided outlets for it though.
>>
>>712667740
So, internet is a fucking human right? They already said health insurance is, too.

Where does food, water, heat, and shelter fall into this? I'd kinda think those were a bit more important than the fucking internet.
>>
>>712667764

Clinton's all they have.

There's no substantive defense or support for Trump.

Why do I have the responsibility of explaining why that's a good thing? He is the one that said what he said and you were the one who said what it means.

Assuming we can even trust your opinion as valid-- actually, let's assume we can-- best case it's his responsibility to explain it.

Worst case (and far more likely, I retract my faith in you due to the fact that you're a /b/tard) you have no fucking idea what you're talking about and this is bait.

This isn't your nigger home Internet, this is the backbone services. If you pay your ISP and log in and want to look at porn on a server in Iceland, your ISP takes that request and hands it off, it gets picked up, moved, and handed off again and again. You only paid your ISP, do the 3 other companies that helped fulfil your request get anything?

Should they? Under what circumstances?

The popular vote doesn't mean jack shit. The states have a right to choose a president that will represent their interest, and they all knew Clinton was the wrong woman for the job. Deal with it cuck.

>>712668580
It's not blind faith. Trump is a billionaire for a reason, when it comes to the economy he knows what he's talking about better than a couple of retards shitposting on 4chan. If he says net neutrality is bad for business then we can take him at his word. ISPs are companies just like any other and are entitled to the same rights.

Bingo. Your local ISP will make their money. Would you like them to charge you or netflix? I don't use netflix so I'd like it if they charged netflix.

Net neutrality makes cost shifting onto consumers easy. Do you really think netflix is profitable at $10 a month for all you can stream? Or is it that every Internet consumer has $4 a month embedded in their bill whether they use netflix or not.

Ours has been screwing us, and thanks to outdated territory laws from the cable tv industry, only one provider is in one territory at a time, thus eliminating competition.
