because the academia is mostly immigrants bought by US universities, then there are some who study very hard and get paid good money as an incentive. Same goes for science and industry. US is built of private enterprise. Look at the top 50 universities in US, which of them are owned by the state? I'd be surprised if you could name me one. Same goes for hospitals, all the good ones are private.
Now if your government tells you i will pay for your insurance or will make sure that you get a good educational loan what will a BUSINESS do?
Raise the price by the amount the government is willing to pay. So now instead of paying 10,000 for the whole thing you will pay 10,000 for the first year and hand the 30,000 for the other 3 years from the government to the university. The more government is willing to subsidize a private institution the more money they will take. Just look at the private industry building stuff for the government, how outraged people are about government paying an insane amount to this private institution, but when it is a student loan it is fine. So lets raise the taxes to pay for it, so people make less money, and have to rely on subsidies again for education and healthcare. Who wins in this situation? Insurance and private institutions.
