Say it's an issue where it won't happen EVERY time or doesn't happen quickly enough for the often limited time they can take on it in a busy shop, when asked what the issue is; in person though, I've used sounds along with descriptions before due to lack of automotive knowledge at the time. Having said that, that type of thing keeps you all in business as after a few times of having to repetitively bring in my vehicles to various places for the same issue just not getting fixed I slowly learned how to pretty much deal with everything outside some advanced on-board electronics crap in some newer rigs, and now do the shit myself 90% of the time for like 1/3 to 1/4th of the cost, and without having to deal with the bullshit of possibly not having the issue properly fixed the FIRST time anymore...

Ok, so as a person who managed the front end in retail I think the problem you might be having is a lack of communication between you and your cashiers.
If you're new there make sure you communicate to your manager the problems that you might be having, because it sounds like there's a good chance that they aren't actually telling people about the silverware.
In which case it wouldn't really be their fault for not knowing.

We have a regular customer who I think has schizophrenia. She's this old woman who comes in and buys one pastry and sits around for several hours, only leaving at close.
Sometimes she loudly accuses other customers using phones or laptops of spying on her. On one such occasion years ago she apparently threw tea all over some couple taking a selfie together for that reason.
When she goes to the coffeeshop in the bookstore nearby, she goes around and turns around any books near her table with faces on them so that they aren't "watching her"
Years ago she got banned from a location my friend was working at because she threw a muffin at a baby.
I'm told she once tried to run over somebody years ago who she thought was following her

Analyst in a service department. I don't supervise anyone, but I have to deal with:
1) Drivers who never answer their phone. This has gone on with one driver since 2005 or so.
2) Retarded shop employees from a particular subtype that features exceedingly horny 55+ year old women, frequent back-stabbing, incessant multi-syllabic chatter, and getting their cousin that they hate a job.
3) Managers that haven't opened the warehouse management system in over a year. Let me repeat that- the financial reporting tool that their department's life blood flows through- haven't opened it. In fact, one employee and I talked openly about it so the web developer cut off our access that allowed us to see how often the managers might or might not look at the financials.
4) Managers that don't even know the room number they work in. 25,000 people work here bub. Maybe you should know that?
6) Abslutely retarded employees. "Hey- go pick up those packages in room 112" "Der- I went to 118 but nobody there knew what I was talking about" and so on.

Most of the areas I've lived in not having adequate food delivery services from local or even semi-local grocery stores. This means I have to take time away from something I enjoy doing, and go waste time at a at some bright and loud physical location with employees that often either a. don't seem to know shit or give a shit, or b. are disgustingly extroverted with their customers. Like come the fuck on already get with the program and have a fleet of delivery vehicles already with properly trained delivery personnel with card scanners, and stop trying to be some last bastion of out of home required service.
