Still though, people should be so scared. You don't know what will happen. I voted for Hillary because that seemed the most logical choice based on experience and respectability.
That being said I will give him a chance. He fought hard for this and earned it. I congratulate him and hope for his a America's sake he does the best job possible.

And furthermore, the electoral college is far from perfect, but it is needed. For fairness and equality it has exist, but it does need a revamp. I would say mainly in the sense of how precincts and districts are drawn, but I could be wrong.

We all would, trust me, and we'd be one of the greatest countries on Earth; great education, great economy, relatively little violence, etc.

However, Canada is one of the strictest countries in the world when it comes to immigration and obtaining citizenship. Even renowned doctors and scientists often have a hard time getting citizenship to Canada.

The Kratom petition may have helped that situation, but so did the medical community and political backlash.

>>711734475
That's because other countries bully Canada into not accepting people, especially valuable people, because then all the best scientists and doctors in the world would be living there and everyone else would be fucked.

Trump simply was not elected by the majority of this country's people.

A mulligan on voting sounds nice, but that would be a horrible idea. Just think not only of the legislative issues with figuring out the laws around that (how many times can you change, how long till you can't anymore, etc), but also thing of all those people in your life, and I know you know some, that can't decide if they want a regular or large coffee without going back and forth twenty times. The wasted time and man hours that comes from these people. Horrendous.

I've lived in several conservative area's in my life, and can only imagine an all-conservative America to be nothing short of an apocalypse for this country.

Like it or not, liberals are the intellectuals who have been holding this country together... the best they can, at least, which is hard when gun toting redneck retards keep getting in your way.
>>
>>711734995
How old are you? I'm seriously asking.
Do you have any idea how a democracy is supposed to work?
For your system of recanting your vote to work, there would have to be a record of how every single person in the country voted available to the government.
It is beyond me how you cannot see that this goes against core democratic values.
>>
When the Liberal Government is re-instated, there will be an intensive massive crack-down on the Alt-Right before it turns into a Nazi type movement.
>>
>>711735747
The Brexit needs to be repealed, because there are clearly enough examples of voters not wanting what they voted for.
>>
>>711735148
exactly, we have a system in place to deal with situations like this and the trumpanzees are afraid of letting the will of the people prevail
>>
>>711734995
And every time a politician did something you didn't like you can contact the government and re-re-cant you vote again and again.

>>
>>711735777

>>
>>711732921
If you wanted to see real riots, then take out the democratically elected president because people are crying about the system after THEIR candidate didn't win. To be honest, I think that would be a big enough spark to cause more than riots.

Not saying I agree with any of it, but theres so many high tension areas in social politics right now that it would be a very bad move. I get peoples issue, but you cant say "We need to change the electoral college system" and raise a fuss about it AFTER you lose. You should do it before, or now that you realize its bad work to change it so 4 years from now it doesnt happen again. Doing anything else just shows you are being a sore loser. I swear everyones a retarded man baby these days, Bernie supporters, Trump supporters, and Hillary supporters. All dumb as fuck, its just what flavor dumb you want.

The electoral college is there to keep the popular vote from being the main decider in elections. That is it's purpose. Think if it this way. What if the country was 50% White Christian Males, and they all voted one way. This would mean that only their votes would matter in just a popular election. There would be nothing but campaining for White Christian Males. The electoral college is meant (but not nessicarily perfectly) to allow equal representation to all varieties of groups. Each state has EC votes selected based on population, but this make the Jersey Jews and New Hamshire Christians have a similar influence.

Sorry. I'm not a gay ass liberal.

The EC fucked up twice in a span of less than 15 years.

It's time to ditch it, and move towards direct popular vote. Progressives are sick of the Red States being the deciding factor over and fucking over again.
>>
>>711735615
Liberals are no longer the group holding America together. They are no longer representing the common person, they are an elitist club. At this point to an even higher degree than the Republicans.
And that's why they lost to Trump, because the common person would rather vote for Trump than for a party and candidate that has his best interest even less in mind.
>>
>>711736806
>What if the country was 50% White Christian Males, and they all voted one way. This would mean that only their votes would matter in just a popular election.

Nazis...
German National Socialist Party. Practiced a form of socialism called "Fascism", where the government placed their own key people in charge of all economic sectors... health care, banking, auto manufacturing, etc. It's socialism by proxy, since there's still ostensibly private businesses, but the government still controls it.

Hmmm... that sounds familiar. Like Obama nationalizing healthcare, putting his people in charge of General Motors, banking boards... in fact, you're describing DEMOCRATS.

Hillary says minimum wage, Trump says he'll get everyone jobs. That's two sides of the same coin.
But Trump was much more adamant in his position than Hillary was in hers. Hillary was the candidate of business as usual, Trump at least offered an alternative in a similar way that Bernie did.
But because Bernie wasn't up against him, Trump was able to ride this anti-establishment wave to the white house.

No, it actually wouldn't if you think it through.

Suppose the federal government raised the minimum wage to $15 like Bernie wanted. Suddenly everyone who's worked their way up from minimum wage to $15/hr is a minimum wage employee again, making no more than the untrained new guy. Suddenly a small business that's employing five people at $10/hr is going to have to lay some of them off because they can't afford a 50% increase to their payroll. This would royally fuck small businesses everywhere and increase unemployment by increasing the cost of operating a business.

I did pay my student loans, but the issue is more of one of societal risk. The current student loan infrastructure punishes people for reasons wholely out of their control. Take the Law degree bubble that burst in 2008. Many people who thought they were getting useful degrees in a desired major found themselves unable to get a job following the economic collapse of 2008.

Or what of the tens of millions of people in rural states and city ghettos who can't afford a college education nor do they have any prospect of qualifying for a loan due to their family's shitty socioeconomic status? I don't believe in punishing someone who wants to be a productive member of society because they had poor luck in the gene-pool lottery.

Most issues I'd agree with you on, but on student loans I'll have to respectfully disagree.

The EC helps prevent fraud. In states where one party is strong, there would be an incentive to stuff the ballot with fake votes. A fake vote in a popular vote scenario is the same as a real vote throughout the US. But a fake vote in a one-party state can't change the outcome under the EC. That state is already going towards that party's candidate.

And anyone that says poor people cant go to college are dumb. Less money you have the cheaper it is to go to school. Everyone has to take loans out for school almost no one pays for it in full so it doesn't matter how much money you have. If you're poor before college you will have less loans after school than kids that grew up in middle and upper middle class families

Businesses run on a budget. Substantially Increasing the amount that each employee must be paid reduces the number of employees that can be afforded by that budget. It's basic multiplication.
$4,000 per week payroll budget
$10/hrx40 hrs = $400 per employee = 10 employees
$15/hrx40 hrs = $600 per employee = 6 employees

That's a 40% layoff rate. That won't benefit anyone.

this.

I fucking hate Trump and I'm super worried how he's going to run the country.

That said, this petition is a waste of time. The dude won fair and square.

Who's fault is it they picked a worthless degree? No one forced them to take a worthless degree. And there are already programs to help poor people go to college such as state and federal grants. People that look at college as a guaranteed automatic increase to how much they'll make are delusional and just asking to get burned.

What gets me, is that there are people arguing against trump bringing jobs to the usa through energy de regulation. How could anyone argue against jobs?

Yes, the environment is important, but the usa is a dropped bottle cap compared to the dumping of gallons of petroleum into the ocean, that is china and all of south east asian

And since I'm writing it anyway...

>The Electoral College and gerrymandering will be eliminated.
Good luck passing that amendment. You need 2/3 of the House, and 2/3 of the Senate. And 3/4 of the states to ratify. Do you really think it is in any way possible to get 3/4 of the states to ratify, when you are essentially telling them to give up any semblance of sovereignty they still have? The last meaningful amendment was passed in the 1970s, and it was not nearly as contentious as eliminating the Electoral College. It will never happen, may as well accept that now and move on with your life.

>Anon can't really argue this point, so he furnishes some "example" that has jack shit to do with what we're talking about.
No, anon is making sense. The Dems use the superdelagate system, which is like the Electoral College on steroids. And the democrats accept those results without complaining, even when the results are against the popular vote (like with Obama vs Hillary). Yet in the general election (and only when it costs them an election) democrats like to bitch about the Electoral College. It's time to just get over it. If you really cared, you would have 1. looked up and understood the Electoral College before this election, 2. tried your damnedest to organize enough people to get an amendment passed, 3. given up because it's fucking impossible to do now.

It'd be 100% my fault for reading my crystal ball wrong? Wow, wish I knew how to predict the future accurately to ensure that I never make any wrong multi-year decision that'd cost me $30,000+.

I don't want my kids (when I have some) to have a credible risk that the major they spent 4 years studying will no longer be economically competitive for reasons entirely out of their control.

And while colleges may be cheaper in poor areas, it's not cheap enough for many poor families to take advantage of as is indicated by college enrollment status for children from low-income families.

Do you think the supreme court is going to rule part of the constitution unconstitutional?
The electoral college is part of the constitution and can't be changed without an amendment which requires a LOT of red states to say " geee...i think i want all those liberal cities deciding the election"
>>
Democracy is dead anyway...

if the bench had one more liberal on it...absolutely.

>muh math problems

Funny how you still can't prove your point
There is literally no evidence that raising wages hurts small business.

You are simply proving my point, that someone who would benefit from a wage increase would be a mark for this kind of socially conservative bullshit you're replying with.

The rules for the electors voting against their constituents are set and unchangable. Petitions have no affect here. If they decide to do that there's a process. A petition has fuck all to do with it. It's just funny as shit to watch you faggots piss and moan.
>>
>>711743464

It'd be different if they knew from the get go it was a worthless degree and took it anyway. I'm talking about shit like degrees that are worthwhile when you start college but, due to factors entirely out of your control, are nearly worthless by the time you graduate.

Great response, it was a genuine question you dumbass

Getting rid of the EC has been politically impossible but lately I bet that has changed

The reson trump even one the election is due to the media and sjws branding anyone who does not support crocked hillary is a fucking sexist, racist and other things when most of them are clearly not. For me it was over the moment they fucked over bernie who whould have won this election hnads down but this what happens when you are bias to one side you get the orange twat in office. i have also lost faith in my favorite celebritys as well so thank for that.

actually the supreme court in the UK says no brexit for now...

but I agree, although trump hasn't technically won the electoral college yet - he will when they vote.

trump's always been against the electoral college. even now. this is the 1 thing he's been consistent on.

Except no, the Superdelegates all went to Obama in 2008.

We are not talking about Democratic Party Primaries, dipwad, we are talking about Direct Popular Vote in a General Election.

You're both full of shit.

I'm not 100% disagreeing with your point about where will raises come from, but please consider the following:

Share holder ran businesses are designed to maximize profit in order to maximize return to the investors (Return on Investment, the basic foundation of capitalism.)

Therefore, most share-holder run businesses are going to be going for maximum efficiency of labor. By this I mean, they aren't going to hire people that aren't necessary. They are only going to employ people that fill a required role, and for as little as the law/marketplace will allow.

If the amount that the law/marketplace requires increases, they aren't going to fire everyone. They needed those people for a reason, and that need doesn't just disappear because the rate they must pay to employ them does.

>Now I actually am not in favor of the electoral college
I think it's an ingenious system, which balances state's needs and overall population needs. Not to mention, the popular/electoral votes have only been mismatched 4 times, ever.

>inb4 you must be in a swing state
I am not.

>a changecan only be introduced after the necessary amendment has been made
Exactly. And it will never happen, because you need to convince 3/4 of the states to basically give up their voting rights/power. Not gonna happen.

>and only for future elections.
Which is the key point. There is no undoing the Trump election. Time to move on...
