I don't think they influence the education, but it definitely plays a big part in student life. Half the events happening during my stay there where planned by some political society. It was super weird and it felt like everyone was being brainwashed to join a political society just because people would get invited to some party, or in most cases, because some hot broad was there and you desperately wanted to fuck her. I'd say it's okay, student satisfaction isn't too great apparently, but they have really good research quality, they're pretty well funded and they have really good graduate employment rates.

This is what I mean - Oxford as a brand is recognised everywhere, and opens doors. It is obvious that different unis are better than it at different things - sometimes it even slips in its traditionally strong areas such as the humanities & arts (before people start screaming the usual 4chan "shit-tier" mantra, I hope they know that a history degree from Oxford - much like one from Harvard - opens doors in banking, politics, finance: all those things that mean an Oxford history graduate usually earns more than most STEMers).
It will take a fair few years of Oxford slippage (and Cambridge too, it is possible there too) for the brand to go.
When everyone has a glowing CV these days, Oxbridge stands out - more so than Durham, let's say.

Although London Unis are very much going up in prestige. London is a brand recognized everywhere itself.

In brand recognition, I'd even say that naming a place in London is way more recognized than places like Warwick

I find that Oxford/Cambridge are known fairly universally. Imperial/LSE/UCL are recognised by experts in the field, so your boss will probably be impressed but not necessarily the man on the street.
All five are incredible names to have on your CV tbh.
